“Teach us to number our days aright, that we may gain a heart of wisdom” (Psalm 90:12).
Ask many senior citizens past three score and ten years – how do they number their days?
” Day by day” many will say “one day at a time.” It seems when they say that that there is little purpose in life.. just waiting for the time when the grim reaper shall come with his sickle to fetch them home.
A child of God will number his/her days realizing that life is in God’s hands
In so doing, we need to please God rather than man
We need to adhere to the Word of God and His wisdom
In redeeming the time as the days are evil and do not indulge in sinful pleasures and allurements, do not waste time but gaining useful knowledge, doing good to others,, employing our time for the purpose of an honest livelihood for ourselves and families, in prayer and self-examination to make the heart better; in seeking salvation, and in endeavoring to do the will of God.
Do not play the fool and let the enemy fool us that we can relent and enjoy our lives for a season with temptations galore.
How many times have I seen a young life cut off at the prime?
How many times have there been useless quarrel within families and among friends,
How many times has there been careless talk behind each other’s back that have harmed, endangered and yes, broken friendships of many years?
Will we have work undone which others must complete for us because we got distracted and never followed the leading of the Lord? Or worse, left our first love for Him who gave His all for us, for something worth nothing?
Number your days whatever your age.
Tomorrow may never come for you to engage.
