”A merry heart doeth good like a medicine…” – Proverbs 17:22
Years ago, I came across John Maxwell’s ‘’Making Today Count’’. I was blessed to read about tips on how we can maximize our day. The conclusion page says it this way: ‘’you really can make today great. The key is to make the most important decisions of your life and then to manage those decisions. Anyone who does that consistently can make today a masterpiece.’’
While it’s so true that consistency brings order to our growth in Christ, we also need to expand the rays of the light we now have to others. I always believed that not all diseases are contagious but all emotions are.
Every morning, when we first open our eyes, what do our faces express? Is it a thankful & peaceful smile for another day God has given? or a wrinkled forehead worrying for the problems of yesterday and today? Whatever it may be, when we start moving after getting up from bed, our emotions vibrates and radiates, affecting the rest of our day and the people around us. Imagine sitting with a negative person half of the afternoon and you’ll soon begin practicing that negativity for the whole day. Or let’s reverse it, talk with a positive person even for few hours and you feel way better as you go on with your work. Starting your day with a talk to the Lord through prayer is a great way of inviting good vibes before heading on to your routines.
It is important that we radiate the good vibes in our daily walk with God. In same way, it is also important that we choose what we radiate to others. We’ll never know who we can meet for the entire day and some of them might be in the midst of discouragement. We’ll never know how our simple smile to our fellow church mate can influence their outlook to be positive. We can’t limit how far the effect of our few words of encouragement to somebody will reach their lonely hearts back to God. We may never know, but God knows. When we are willing to be His channel of blessing (be it in a simple or big way), He uses our lights to glow so others will be blessed too.
In exploring the possibilities on how we become a blessing to others, radiating the joy we’ve found in Christ is always a good start. Jesus healed many sick people during His time and when these people began to follow Him, He would always say, ‘’Go home to your friends, and tell them how great things the Lord hath done for thee…-Mark 5:19”. We were once like these sick people who found healing in the Lord and the same command of sharing God’s power to others still resounds today.
Are you joyful? Do you have peace? Got words of encouragement? Radiate it to your family, friends, or even to the next colleague beside you now. Don’t miss the chance of being a blessing today
And I know there is a reason why God has blessed us all so much. There’s something He’s expecting from everyone of us.
We’ve been blessed to be a blessing. We’ve been loved to give His love.
- from the classic piece, ”Blessed To Be A Blessing”

During the 22 months I was by my mother’s side as she battled cancer, she came to realize her true spiritual gift was to be an encourager! What a blessing she was to her entire community. We must BE a joyful noise in the world, not just MAKE a joyful noise!
Let us not be the reflection of negativity, but the mirror of positivity.
Well said! Amen.
Genesis 12:3 ” I will bless those who bless you, and whoever curses you I will curse; and all peoples on earth will be blessed through you.” -words spoken by the Lord to Abraham rings true even today in every life that has been a blessing to others in Jesus’ Name. Amen let us be blessings to others for His glory.. because He has first blessed us.
