What I Like About God

I don’t know about you, but I really have to smile when I read Julia Cameron’s summation in “Walking in This World”. She shares; “Here’s what I like about God. Trees are crooked, mountains are lumpy, a lot of creatures are funny looking, and He made them anyway. He didn’t let the Aardvark convince Him that he had no business designing creatures. He didn’t make the Puffer Fish and get discouraged. No, the maker made things, and still does”; though some may challenge His idea of “design” and intelligence.

This may seem a bit irreverent in view of God’s inherent perfection, but maybe there is a lesson in there. Does it not say that God must certainly have a sense of humor? If we are made in His image, so must we have one. Much deeper, I think, is that we may have made comparable distortions in our walk, and things we have produced. Are we to submit these to a jury of our peers for critique and evaluation? Who’s criteria are we to use if not His?

Our decisions may seem way off, our families a bit weird at times; or directions somewhat off-target. It seems to me that God’s Word is so full of mis-steps on the part of a host of followers. Jesus was constantly nudging even His closest disciples back to focus.

While we may often say; “That’s the way I see it” it is altogether fortunate that we make the effort to “see it”. If God knows our heart, we can make an Aardvark or two.

If we dig a hole for ourselves, we can just stop digging!

What I like about God is that He permits us to dig that hole; often to learn His will. He provides us with the shovel to dig, when and where we choose. The Lord is quick to praise and encourage us; that we never cease to DESIGN ways of pleasing Him.

Just maybe He applaudes YOUR last Puffer Fish. How could He not like it.

It worked for Him!
