Preppers around the world are busy… well… prepping for any of the many disasters sure to befall earth very soon. The most widely anticipated worldly disaster will occur on December 21, 2012. According the well publicized Mayan Calendar, the 4th Age of Man will come to an end on that date. Humankind and the earth as we know it will cease to exist.
Millions of people are busy preparing to “survive” this calamity of the earth no longer being here. It befuddles me a bit to imagine what they are going to do. But I’ve got other fish to fry.
Let’s look at several scenarios relating to December 21, 2012 from a Christian perspective. What’s a Christian prepper to do?
On December 21, 2012, the entire earth is destroyed and mankind is wiped out completely.
Well, I’m not worried about whether I bought green bananas. For that matter, any and all earthly matters, cares, concerns… well, they’re gone! I now have to meet Jesus at the Throne of Grace. I’m not getting any “do overs.” Am I ready?
Prepper action: Lay up my treasures in heaven. We do this by being a disciple of Jesus Christ, loving and obeying His commands.
On December 22, 2012, everything is just as it was the day before.
Well, if I put everything on the line that December 21 would be the end, I’m in the deep do now. It’s more likely that life will continue as it has. Am I ready?
Prepper action: Be a good steward of what God has provided. Be a disciple of Jesus Christ, loving and obeying His commands.
I get struck by lightning or run over by a bus this afternoon.
Well, the “end of the world” just got personal with me. Guess I’ll not worry about December 21. But am I ready right now?
Prepper action: It could be too late to prep. That is unless I’m prepping NOW! How? By being a disciple of Jesus Christ, loving and obeying His commands.
Only the Father knows the day and the hour.
As I’ve written before, Jesus did not command us to live our lives in a manner that gets us to heaven. He commands us to bring heaven to earth by being His disciples. Loving, obeying His commands, spreading the Good News. THAT’s Christian prepping.
If we’re doing that, the end will be taken care of.
Jesus promised us that!

Brother Art, I do not believe I have ever heard it expressed any better than in your words here:
“He commands us to bring heaven to earth by being His disciples” So what about 12/21/2012? So what about tomorrow or an hour from now? It is in the NOW that I must let my light so shine before men….” By the way, I have laughed at this Mayan cartoon every time I have seen it in the past few months! How well it depicts our human idiocies!

I think you’ve got all the bases covered here, Art. I especially appreciated the ‘don’t prepare to go to heaven… but bring heaven here’ statement. I’m with you. Let December be God’s concern… let’s busy ourselves with being prepared today. God bless.
Thanks Mike. It’s really simple common sense. If we don’t do it today, we may not get the chance to do it tomorrow. Let’s extend it…. If we don’t aid another to find Jesus, there may be no chance for them tomorrow either.

Jim Elliot, missionary to the Auca Indians, wrote in his diary not long before the Aucas killed him:
“So live, that when you come to die, you have nothing left to do, but die.”
I believe the rapture could take place at any moment, and we are one day closer to that glorious event, but that does not interfere with my (as you say) “being a disciple of Jesus Christ, loving and obeying His commands.” Jesus told us to “Occupy till I come” so I delight to be privileged to serve Him and to follow faithfully.
The “when” of His coming doesn’t control our thinking or our doing, but because we know it COULD be very soon, our hearts go out to unsaved family and friends and we are more moved to pray for them and to reach them with the Gospel.
We serve an amazing God!
“So live, that when you come to die, you have nothing left to do, but die.”
AMEN! People ask “What is the purpose of life? That quote is the answer when our focus in being a disciple of Christ Jesus!

“By being a disciple of Jesus Christ, loving and obeying His commands.”
You cannot imagine how much I love this.
I started a conversation with a lady I work with, and included the word rapture. She says, “yes, you talk about that all the time.”
I guess I do, it is who I am now.
Because I have found the one, the one who set me free, and this heart of stone cries out for him.
Hey if the rocks will cry out, then my heart can too. I woke up this morning with the words to a song going off in my head.
I have struggled just a bit with this end times message that I now speak out about. But here is the thing to me. Everything about is changing because of it. I have become bolder, braver, more knowledgeable, and definitely more passionate about this love affair I am having with my Savior.
Did I mention how absolutely amazing he is.

Amazing…. seems like a rather inadequate word, doesn’t it? Oh, the limits of our human capabilities.
Jesus wants us, craves for us to have that personal relationship with Him, HOW! Bouncing along in our lives, looking forward to having it “in heaven” just doesn’t work! That’s the “too late” scenario.”
I keep beating this drum because it took me so long to come to the realization of it. “Jesus commands us to bring heaven to earth NOW.” Outr place in heaven is a promise He has made. It’s ours via grace.
Thanks for the comment, Oz. Glad the message strikes a chord.
