Will “Political Correctness” be the death of Christianity? (Reblogged)

Here in the US and to a great extent worldwide, we are consumed by “political correctness.” Not only are we surrounded by the forces of being PC, we find ourselves feeling guilty when we say or do something that is not PC.

There is great danger there at all levels, from the international political level to the very personal. In our efforts to not be offensive we face the danger of turning from Truth.

We are at war with evil, with the forces of satan. satan rules this broken world. And when we give in to the world regarding our faith in order to be PC, we leave the door wide open to satan to overcome the Holy Spirit in our lives. We, Christians, must stand firm in our beliefs and faith, we must stand firm for TRUTH.

I am not saying we should be insensitive or unkind. Taking that course will also lead us to being un-Christian.

I was recently listening to Pat Robertson on CBN. While he was being critical of being PC to the detriment of our faith and TRUTH, he was also being very unrealistic. Specifically, he was talking about the need of Muslims to rewrite the Koran to meet the conditions of the modern world by eliminating references to “jihad.” This can no more happen that we Christians could rewrite the Bible to fit a new world.

This is not just a call to faith, but a call to Christian action. We can not sacrifice our faith, the TRUTH of the Living Word to being politically correct. We must deal with the reality of our world in Light of God’s Word.

Shalom,

Art

An excellent call to action! We may not live in monasteries, but we have the tendency to turn our homes and lives into them. While we are called to come out from them, we are also called to remain with them (that’s not confusing) in order to be an influence (salt and light). “in… but not of!”

Thanks, Art… another challenge to show just how much growth I still need.

  2. We are commanded to obey the laws of our land, but in Acts 5:29 we see that Peter declared “We ought to OBEY GOD, rather than men”. On another instance, Peter replied “We cannot BUT speak the things which we have seen and heard” Acts 4:20.

There will be times when we CANNOT obey the “niceties” of political correctness (which so often are one-sided) and we need to stand firm at those times and speak up for our rights. (with respect and politeness)

Yes, Art, we must not get out ahead ofGod on this one. We must abide in His Word so as to convey the Christian message without unkindness and without fretting over PC!
