We can speak to the  Lord today through Jesus Christ  after the veil of the temple separating the inner court and the Holy of Holies, was rent into two when Jesus cried “It is finished” when He died on the cross.  In ancient days it was not so as the High Priest was the only one who entered the Holy of Holies and if he was not properly cleansed of sin he would be struck dead and had to be pulled out as no one could enter the Holy of Holies. Different aspects are covered here. Spend as much or as little time here. The main point is God is interested to meet with us today and He has provided the only Way, Jesus Christ.
