Vindictiveness, like gossip, is sometimes held together with a series of recurring lies. In some cases vindictiveness tries to justify its existence long after an offence or antagonist leaves the scene. It may seek to attack anyone connected to the object of its vindication and can even reign havoc in the lives of those harboring vindication or in the life of the target of its objective.

A stronghold of vindictiveness sets in when the host denies logic and wise reasoning in its advances. For example a host will try to vindicate an ancestor on future generations of the target without provocation.

This spiritual stronghold will blind the host from seeing anything outside of its spectrum and eventually will bring in hate, denial, lies, gossip, malice and many other strongholds to aid in its defense, including a stronghold of murder.

The host of vindictiveness perpetuates its objective by reiterating its cause or justifying the motives for its cause. This cause is almost always to kill, steal or destroy its victims in retaliation of an assumed offence. Unfortunately in this case, the host is also a victim of its blinded, merciless attacking of a potentially long forgotten incident or motive.

5 Biblical tips to overcome vindictiveness:

1. Analyse the reasoning behind any ‘get even’ plot or thought. After you look at your vindictive objective with wisdom and logic it may not seem reasonable to be vindictive.

Romans 3:10-18 As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one: 11 There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God.12 They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. 13 Their throat is an open sepulchre; with their tongues they have used deceit; the poison of asps is under their lips: 14 Whose mouth is full of cursing and bitterness: 15 Their feet are swift to shed blood: 16 Destruction and misery are in their ways: 17 And the way of peace have they not known: 18 There is no fear of God before their eyes.

2. Consider releasing any vindictiveness to God. God has declared that vengeance is his and that he will repay.

Romans 12:19 Beloved, never avenge yourselves, but leave the way open for [God’s] wrath; for it is written, Vengeance is Mine, I will repay (requite), says the Lord.

3. After releasing it to God, forgive. Without forgiveness life has no length or peace.

Matthew 12:7 And if you had only known what this saying means, I desire mercy [readiness to help, to spare, to forgive] rather than sacrifice and sacrificial victims, you would not have condemned the guiltless.

4. Encourage others to forgive as well. When we encourage forgiveness we reinforce forgiveness in ourselves.

1 John 1:5 [ God Forgives Our Sins ] We heard the true teaching from God. Now we tell it to you: God is light, and in him there is no darkness.

5. Avoid rehashing the forgiven vindictiveness. Many times we forgive and then speak about the situation to others which in turn continues the feelings behind the original vindictiveness.

Hebrews 8:12 For I will be merciful to their unrighteousness, and their sins and their iniquities will I remember no more.

Letting go and letting God makes it SO much easier to forgive and relinquish ALL negative emotions about others.
