A full size coffin stood on the front porch of a thickly populated residential area of Cleveland Ohio for a number of years. It became the subject of sight-seeing tourists after being included in Ripley’s “Believe it or not”
An aged cabinet maker who had no family made it for himself and it stood there waiting for his demise.
We can admire his foresight.
Most funeral directors now encourage people to make preparations in advance. Anyone who has had the task of arranging a funeral for a loved one knows what a distressing time it can be. To have choices already made and the pile of paperwork completed ahead of time would lessen the upheaval and trauma for a grieving family.
While admiring the foresight of the man in Cleveland, I can’t help but wonder if he also made preparations for his soul. If not, God says of such people, “Thou fool” Luke 12:20

It is appointed unto man to die once, but after that, the judgement.

What shall it profit a man if he gain the whole world, and lose his own soul?
Planning ahead for funeral arrangements is a good thing to do
but . . .
He who provides for THIS LIFE
but makes no provision for ETERNITY
is wise for a moment but a fool forever.
FAILING TO MAKE PREPARATIONS FOR ETERNITY
IS FOOLISH!
Look away to the cross of the Crucified One
Where He purchased salvation for you;
Where He laid down His life and completed the work
That His Father had sent Him to do.
Look away to the cross of the Crucified One,
To the cross where He suffered and bled.

And this is the testimony:
God has given us eternal life, and this life is IN His Son.
He who HAS THE SON has life;
he who DOES NOT HAVE THE SON does NOT have life.

The first key to someone being prepared for the future afterlife is coming to an understanding of how they are to prepare. There is so many lies that exist on this subject. I thank the Lord that there are blogs such as http://meetingintheclouds.wordpress.com/ and ChristianBlessings that exist to proclaim the truth to those who are sincerely desiring to be prepared for their eternal existance. Lord bless you and thank you for the most important warning for us all.

God’s Word makes it abundantly clear that everyone has an eternity and that there are only two alternatives in that eternity – heaven or hell (and that hell is a place of eternal torment). He also makes it abundantly clear that there is only ONE way to spend eternity with Him and that is through the Lord Jesus Christ.
May each and every person heed the warning and accept the free Gift offered by the eternal, living God.

Upon my return from “making arrangements” my wife and I had a different mindset. We set to going through our things and disposing of them (one way or another). In essence I made a manual that was intended to remove some, if not all, of the questions in every disposition. Simultaneously came the even more intense desire to make sure that we were “right” with God.
His response was, we believe; You have done much of what I intended; now make sure YOUR spiritual house is clear of all goods and distractions. We are working on it. There is still some junk in a couple rooms.

That comment reminds me of Robert Boyd Munger’s little booklet “My Heart, Christ’s Home” where he imagines Jesus entering his home. After a few battles, he finally gives Him the keys and title deeds to the whole house.
“My all, O Lord, I give to You:
my body, mind and soul.
May all the days that lie ahead
Be under Your control.”

What is your life? For ye are a vapor, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.James 4:14.
Many fear death and separation from loved ones for this life and take pains to mitigate the pain. They forget that this life is like a vapor and temporary and that the greater separation from God for eternity is much more important, as the enemy has blinded their eyes from the important. Let us pray for loved ones and those who are so blinded that the truth of God will be revealed to them and that they will wisely make the necessary preparation for eternity.
Life is so short when compared with eternity.
THE DEVIL has made a pretty good job of deceiving people into believing either that there is no such thing as eternity (that the grave is the end of everything) or that heaven is for everyone, and will be just as they want it to be, whether that is fishing, playing golf, or whatever.
GOD cannot lie. He has clearly told us about eternity. HE has dictated that there is only ONE Way to be with Him in eternity – and that way is through the atoning shed blood of His Son, the Lord Jesus. He has also dictated there is only one place for those who do NOT accept the Lord Jesus and His gift of eternal salvation.
To anyone who does not know Christ as Saviour, there is time, but time will soon come to an end, and that could be at any moment. “NOW is the day of salvation”
