Dr Richard Teo was a Singaporean 40-year-old millionaire and cosmetic surgeon with a stage-4 lung cancer. Towards the end of his life, he realized what really is essential in his life and hence his message is for people to not make the same mistake as him. He passed away on 18 October 2012.

“When I faced death, when I had to, I stripped myself off all stuff totally and I focused only on what is essential. The irony is that a lot of times only when we learn how to die then we learn how to live. … Don’t let society tell you how to live. Don’t let the media tell you what you’re supposed to do okay because that’s what happened to me. And I led this life thinking all these things are going to bring me happiness. I hope you will think about it and decide for yourself how you want to live your life. Not according to what other people tell you to do and you have to decide whether you want to serve yourself or whether you are going to make a difference in somebody else’s life. I knew absolutely nothing about life or living for the first 22 years of my life, and life held no charm at all for me.
However, from the day I died – i.e. from the day I died to self and self-will, and allowed the Lord Jesus Christ His rightful place as Lord of my life – I began to live. The life He gives is abundant life, full of His love, mercy and grace, with His abiding presence and His help in every area of life. Yes, there are still problems, but He undertakes for us and uses them to ‘grow’ us. We really learn how to live when we submit to God.
We serve an amazing God who only desires the very, very best for us and is always willing and ready to undertake for us.
