An Offer You Can’t Refuse

You can acquire wisdom over time, but God promises to give it to you if you ask.

What would you do if God offered you anything you wanted? What would you ask for? God posed this question to Solomon, the Son of King David and a king in his own right. How did Solomon respond? He asked for “an understanding mind” (1 Kings 3:9). To say God answered his request is an understatement. History records that Solomon was the wisest man who ever lived (for a sampling of his wise words, read the Book of Proverbs).

Would you ask God for wisdom above all else? It seems like a pretty good idea. Now, God probably won’t give you the same kind of wisdom He gave Solomon, but He has made you the same offer: He will give you wisdom if you ask for it. It’s not like you’re suddenly going to get super smart. But you will find that as you gain wisdom, you will begin to see things from God’s perspective.

If you need wisdom–if you want to know what God wants you to do–ask him, and he will gladly tell you. James 1:5

  1. This is a wonderful promise of God to His blood-bought, adopted children and many of us can testify to the fact of receiving God’s wisdom when we’ve called to Him for understanding and direction, but I believe this specific promise must be viewed in the light of the whole context of James 1:2-8. Wisdom is not an ‘automatic’ gift. There are conditions, but when they are fulfilled the promise is given and we are mightily blessed.

We serve an incredibly amazing God who delights to bless His children.

It is the privilege for the Child of God to ask Abba Father for wisdom and He will give. However, it is necessary to maintain a close relationship with Him to recognise His voice clearly, as only His sheep know His voice. Those who are not close in relationship with Him may be tricked or hear a message that comes from the enemy which is not wisdom but spells destruction. So a prerequisite is to know the Father to be able to receive the wisdom from the Father.
Every promise of God comes with a condition to be fulfilled.

    Blessings to you Lyn.
