Once during the industrialization period of Singapore, after the country’s independence, there were many blue collared workers in the factories. The wages were not high and many trusted in the Turf Club where they gathered during weekends with friends to make a bet or two on horses, hoping to win a windfall to supplement their somewhat meagre income. The who could not afford solo bets would form groups to make their bets and share the winnings.
As the country progressed, in addition to the Turf Club, then came the Singapore Pools TOTO 4-D lotteries - with higher income, the bets were higher and so the cost. The proceeds of the bets made by choosing several numbers on a coupon, were applied to charitable ends. It made gambling legal. At Chinese New Year especially, the winnings snowballed and could amount to several millions – how attractive! and many are tempted to bet away their annual bonuses received at that time or even more than they can afford because they trust in a system which could win them those mesmerizing prizes.
And now the dice is cast, many are the families who have had to take out court orders to prevent and protect their loved ones from betting their lives away at the two casinos. How much grief and pain has been suffered and try as the authorities would like, the betrayed trust of breadwinners is causing grief to spouses, parents and children. The clock cannot be turned back no matter what preventive measures are taken.
Some trust in chariots, and some in horses, but we trust in the name of the Lord our God. Psalm 20:7

What do you trust ? There is a difference on your life - if you trust in yourself, in horses, in chariots of charity or in the Lord.
Watch the difference and experience that He never fails when you trust in the name of the Lord!
Trust in the Lord with all your heart
and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to him,
and he will make your paths straight.
Proverbs 3:5,6

Gambling here has mushroomed in recent years, with so many becoming addicted and gambling all their wages and selling things or stealing in order to feed their habit. I often think how ludicrous the last line of any advertisement (by law) is “And remember, always gamble responsibly” Can gambling every be ‘responsible’? I don’t think so!
We have battled against Casinos here. The last one we defeated. That is He defeated. As it iswe still have the Native American gaming and there are modest benefits to them.
