First thing in the morning, eat a live frog

I have a freind who used to tell me “First thing in the morning, eat a live frog. It’s bound to be the worst thing that happens to you all day.”

Uh! A live frog? Wonder if it would taste like chicken?

Now, there is something appealing about getting the worst part of your day over with early. But eating a live frog! Certainly doesn’t sound very positive, does it?

So, let’s see if we can find a better way, a positive way to start the day. No surprise here, start the day by reading a portion of a good book… THE Good Book. Lots of ways to get into this habit. Daily devotionals, preparing for a bible study, just letting it fall open to some passage. However you do it, do it. Make it a routine, get into the habit.

Another positive thing is to have a quiet, one-on-one chat with a friend, your Best Friend. Spend some time alone in prayer and meditation.

For the past two days, yesterday and today, I didn’t do that. I’ve been sorta out of kilter. After the way my life has changed over this past year, this seems very strange to me. I don’t like it much.

When asked how I am doing, my constant response has become “It’s another day in paradise.” Mostly people think that is just a flip response, I suppose, but it is not. When I start the day in communion with Jesus, I know, feel that He is right there with me. And He is. Glory be.

So, eating a live frog! That seems to prepare us to face a day full of negitives. Why on earth, errrr… in paradise would we want to set ourselves up for that?

Much better to set ourselves up for a good day. Another day in paradise.

Now, I do like chicken. But a live frog? No thanks.

Frogs? Baby hairless mice? aaaaaarrrgghh! I just finished eating lunch before I read this and PTL2010’s comment. I hope it stays down.

I needed a rewind on this today. Thought others might use the boost as well.

  4. *chuckles* I’ll pass on the mice just as I do on the live frog!

And I second your recommendation. Just make the whole day go right!

Art, My grandfather used to have a maid from China back in the 1950’s. She used to retrieve the live newborn mice – still fur-less and eyes closed, from the rafters, and swallow them whole with some leaves in the morning. She used to say they were good for medicinal purposes, cleansing the blood. Dont know if it was true.. but she was none the worse for it.

Each to his/her own way of starting the day right – some by exercise, morning walks etc.. but most important, enduring benefits come with starting the day in the Presence of the Lord, and inviting Him to be Lord of your day. He will pervade the whole day and all you go through . It is the most remarkable start of the day anybody can have. I recommend it to those who have not tried.
