I read a blog on another site on the subject “Does the end justify the means?”. Indeed what an interesting topic the author raised and illustrated on the subject, and I provided blog comments copied here. In addition, I am sharing on the thought that you/we all are being audited by God whether you/we like it or not and we have to choose our response.
Does the end justify the means? for years I was an auditor in a company which preached to all and sundry from top to bottom levels of management and from employees inside to those outside vendors.: “the end does not justify the means,” “walk away from business if it involved unethical practice”. For me personally, as an auditor, there was no contradiction and life was easy to enforce compliance. However, for those decision-makers, living daily with operations and trading in diverse cultural and business environments it was not so straightforward.
With clear-cut policy and instructions from the Chairman though, it would have been the easiest thing to follow. However, no, there were people, history, networks, tempting offers, attractive competitors all in the way of achieving the best for the company. As annual confessions and declarations and audit findings were reported we as auditors knew it was not a straight path, for people are naturally crooked. It is so much like the Christian walk. Only choice for each decision was pivotal in keeping the organization true to its policy “the end does not justify the means”.
Heartaches, countless worries, expanded time and costs of many were involved in each non-compliance review. This is also true in the Christian walk when there is non-compliance to trust in the Word. When lessons are learnt there is progress and development. However, when lessons are not accepted and compliance restored, there are penalty, punishment, and loss of employment. How sad. Do we always have to learn by suffering? It seems so, for what wretched people we are, choosing rather to disobey than simply obey.
Audit Standard and Findings
Yes the Lord has given us His warning by His audit standards and we too are told of His audit findings.
The soul that sinneth, it shall die. Ezekiel 18:4
(For all have sinned and come short of the glory of God. Romans 3:23
The fool hath said in his heart, “There is no God”. They are corrupt, they have doe abominable works, there is none that doeth good. Psalm 14 :1 )
For the wages of sin is death but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23
(It is appointed unto man once to die and after this the judgement. Hebrews 9:27)
Without the shedding of blood is no remission (of sins) Hebrews 9:22
(For God so loved the world that He gave His only Son that whosoever believeth on Him should not perish but have everlasting life. John 3:16.
He that believethshall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned”. Mark 16:16.
Ye lust, and have not: ye kill, and desire to have, and cannot obtain: ye fight and war, yet ye have not, because ye ask not. James 4:2)
Come unto me all ye that labour and are heavy laden and I will give you rest. Matthew 9:28
(If we confess our sins, He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. 1 John 1:9
Because I have called, and ye refused; I have stretched out my hand and no man regarded, but ye have set at nought all my counsel, and would none of my reproof; I will laugh at your calamity, I will mock when your fear cometh; when your fear cometh as desolation, and your destruction cometh as a whirlwind; when distress and anguish cometh upon you. Then shall they call upon me, but I will not answer; they shall seek me early but they shall not find me; for they hated knowledge, and did not choose the fear of the Lord; they would none of my counsel; they despised all my reproof. Therefore, shall they eat of the fruit of their own wan, and be filled with their own devices, for the turning of the simple shall slay them, and the prosperity of fools shall destroy them. But whoso hearkeneth unto me shall dwell safely, and shall be quiet from fear of evil. Proverbs 1:24-33 )
For by grace are ye saved, through faith; and that not of yourself; it is the gift of God. Not of works lest any man should boast. Ephesians 2:8.9
(But as many as received Him, to them gave He the power to become the sons of God, even to them that believe on His Name. John 1:12
The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God. And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Romans 8:16,17 )
Now the just shall live by faith; but if any man draw back, my soul shall have no pleasure in him. Matthew 10:38
(But we are not of them who draw back unto perdition; but of them that believe to the saving of the soul. Hebrews 10:, 39
“No man, having put his hand to the plough, and looking back, is fit for the kingdom of God” (Luke 9:62).)
Seek ye first the kingdom of God and all these things shall be added unto you. Matthew 6:33
(Call unto me and I will answer thee and show thee great and mighty things which thou knowest not. Jeremiah 33:3.
Whosoever will come after me, let him deny himself, and take up his cross, and follow me. For whosoever will save his life shall lose it; but whosoever shall lose his life for m sake and the gospel’s the same shall save it. For what shall it profit a man, if he shall gain the whole world, and lose his own soul? Or what shall a man give in exchange for his soul? Whosoever therefore shall be ashamed of me and of my words in this adulterous and sinful generation; of him also shall the Son of man be ashamed, when he cometh in the glory of His Father with the holy angels. Mark 8:34-38)
But he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved. And this gospel of the kingdom shall be preached in all the world for a witness unto all nations; and then shall the end come. Mat. 24:13-14
(Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him. James 1:12
For if we have sin wilfully after that we have received the knowledge of the truth, there remaineth no more sacrifice for sins ; but a certain fearful looking for of judgement and fiery indignation, which shall devour the adversaries. He that despised Moses’ law died without mercy under two or three witnesses. Of how much sorer punishment, suppose ye, shall he be thought worthy, who hath trodden under foot the Son of God, and hath counted the blood of the covenant, wherewith he was sanctified, an unholy thing, and hath done despite unto the Spirit of grace? For we know He that hath said, Vengeance belongeth unto me, I will recompense, saith the Lord. And again, the Lord shall judge his people. It is a fearful thing to fall into the hands of the living God. Hebrews 10:26-31)
Take heed lest it be too late for your repentance.
But the end of all things is at hand: be ye therefore sober, and watch unto prayer. 1Peter 4:7
May the Lord help us be wise to accept the wisdom of God, change our behaviour of non-compliance and to know the difference when we are die-hards on the road to destruction. Indeed we need the Lord’s help in compliance with His Word – simple (when we are not side-tracked) and true for living. Are you in compliance with God’s standards today?
