Each one of us who are children of God
Need to know the Lord
Grow in the Lord in His Word and the fellowship of His Holy Spirit
Accept grace and mercy daily, be thankful and testify of His goodness to us-ward, to encourage others and be encouraged
To minister His love we have received from the Lord, to others.
In order for us to grow, minister and live for Christ in this wicked world, we need to give and receive all the support to/from brothers and sisters in the Lord.
I did not fully see this need till my sister was fighting for her life in the intensive care unit just a few weeks ago. Each day became worse for her for a period of time but the bright thing was, we knew we were not alone in the struggle and she knew too. The reality of that support put the wind in our sails to keep on believing for that breakthrough in healing from the Lord. For there were brothers and sisters in two churches – my sister’s church and my church – who upheld us in prayer interceding before the throne of grace and mercy of the Lord and they stood by us through it all. No, we told them not to visit her in the intensive care unit, but we felt the very Presence of God Almighty each time we entered the intensive care unit where my sister lay hallucinating. No man could do anything not even the doctors who gave her sedatives to calm her, and we could just plead for the blood of Jesus to cover her and to claim healing for her from the Lord as we knew that no doctor could give healing and healing had to come from the Lord according to His will. We learnt that prayer can penetrate/bypass walls made of cement and bring the healing of the Lord to the patient. Praise the Lord that was what happened. Updates were given several times a day by my sms as my sister’s condition worsened or improved and instantly almost we had prayers sms’d back to assure us that we were not alone in the darkest moments.
When my father’s best friend recently was sent to another hospital and he too was desperately ill, his church friends and we his other Christian friends provided prayer support with transportation to and from the hospital sometimes, and also other moral and help support.
In an age where the family has become reduced to parents and one child, and even only a couple, it is pretty lonely for that only child or remaining spouse to face a parent’s/spouse’s death or sickness alone. Again the brothers and sisters in Christ can help provide relief and reciprocate relief they themselves had received when in similar straits. So the brothers and sisters in Christ provided comfort and solace even in bereavement helping in funeral arrangements and announcements and everything related to transportation and catering services.
A family had an accident overseas and one of the family members was badly injured. A brother in Christ had a good friend at the overseas location and there was support network even in that far-off land so that the family found great solace and suffered less anxiety with support on the ground in that far off land.
A student who had to undertake his university education overseas felt overwhelmingly sad that he had to leave his family behind for the first time. It helped so much for him to have a brother in Christ’s brother at the same university and a Christian too. What a strong fellowship grew between the two foreigners in a strange land. It was the support network that gave relief of loneliness, lack of familiarization of locale and gave the heads-up for getting on in student life and provided change management support to a seemingly lost novice in a foreign land.
Why would a Christian want to suffer or go it alone without the support network of brothers and sisters in Christ I cannot understand. It is needless to be alone in this wicked world. I encourage every Christian who has not developed a spiritual network to do so. It could be a Bible cell group, a ministry group you are involved in, a blog site like this or even a network at work or school or church. Let us learn to stand behind and beside each other in the love of Christ amid the struggles of live, and catch the vision and victories together. Let us walk together prayerfully, hand in hand with the other hand in our Saviour’s.
Proverbs 18:24 “A man that hath friends must shew himself friendly.
You must take the initiative.
Ecclesiastes 4:12 “and if one prevail against him, two shall withstand him; and a three cord is not quickly broken”.
The world knows that unity is strength. There is safety in numbers.
You must take the time and effort to maintain that network through the trials and tribulations of life, tested each time, growing in trust of each other, and confident in the Lord’s strength, that we shall prevail together.
The enemy knows that one sheep away from the flock is easier to nab and to kill. Don’t be a lonely hero who is dead on time (pun intended)
1 Peter 5:8,9 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil, as a roaring lion, walketh about, seeking whom he may devour. Whom resist steadfast in the faith, knowing that the same afflictions are accomplished in your brethren that are in the world.
How would you know what the other brothers and sisters are suffering unless you share in the pain and suffering as reflected below:
1 Corinthians 12:26 And whether one member suffer, all the members suffer with it; or one member be honoured, all the members rejoice with it. Yes the Christian support network should not be there only for the pain and through nights of sorrow, it is there for rejoicing in success, overcoming temptations, victories won in the Name of Jesus, and for the good times and bad times.
Let us celebrate each other and suffer together for this is God’s support network for His children that we are talking about.
Be encouraged and blessed with your own network. Establish one if you do not have one yet. It need not be from the same locale or station in life, we are now global.. so tap into the resources of the Christian family.. we are here to bless you as you us.
May all be to His glory…
John 13:35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.
We are one in the bond of love;
We are one in the bond of love.
We have joined our spirits with the Spirit of God;
We are one in the bond of love.
Let us sing now, ev’ry one;
Let us feel His love begun.
Let us join our hands, that the world will know;
We are one in the bond of love.
