I couldn’t help but be reminded of the words of Haggai:
|2 This is what the LORD Almighty says: “These people say, ‘The time has not yet come to rebuild the LORD’s house.'”
3 Then the word of the LORD came through the prophet Haggai: 4 “Is it a time for you yourselves to be living in your paneled houses, while this house remains a ruin?”
5 Now this is what the LORD Almighty says: “Give careful thought to your ways. 6 You have planted much, but harvested little. You eat, but never have enough. You drink, but never have your fill. You put on clothes, but are not warm. You earn wages, only to put them in a purse with holes in it.” (Haggai 1:2-6)
In a land of abundance, the US economy is a mess. For many of us, our own finances are a mess. Yet there are many living a life of abundance. What’s up?
God, through Haggai, was imploring the people to rebuild the Temple. The people had become discourage and distracted. While building fine homes for themselves, they were ignoring rebuilding the House of God.
Their resources passed through their hands like a modern kid who’s just gotten a crisp $5 bill… hurry to spend it! Our wages go into purses (or pockets today) with holes in them.
Jesus admonished us to store our treasures in heaven.
What are we (you) doing to (re)build the Kingdom of Heaven?
