Reflections on a Hostess Fruit Pie

My Friends and Companions:

I had a Hostess fruit pie this morning for breakfast (cherry). *throwing up my hands* OK, I confess, I had another for lunch! (apple) I really LIKE ’em!

But this got me to reflecting. Each of these delightful treats cost me $1.04. Not so much.

Over 1 BILLION people on this earth survive on less than $2 per day. TWO DOLLARS! Food, clothing, shelter… everything… TWO DOLLARS!

Each of these pies has 480 calories. That’s a bunch. NOT the best way to end my Daniel Fast.

I wonder how many billions of people on this earth survive on much less that 960 calories per day?

God promised us an abundant life. And God does provide. When it comes to the world food supply, there is more than enough to go around. We just aren’t very good providers to others. We are not so good as stewards of God’s gifts.

There’s nothing really shocking here. For those reading this, compared to many in the world, we enjoy great abundance. We enjoy freedoms that even billions more on this earth cannot even imagine.

I thank God for all that He has given me. Even in my troubles, I have so very, very much.

And I am thankful that I am able to share a portion of this with others in need. These are not first fruits to be returned to God. Merely a small amount of what I have been given that I can share.

Even in something as small as a fruit pie, I am truly blessed.

The low cost pies you had at breakfast and lunch went further than the monetary value as you shared with us your thanksgiving and praise to the mighty God who supplies our every need. He is the God of miracles and what may seem so small to us becomes big in His hands… just like the five loaves and two fishes. If we share He multiplies. If we only shared more, we will see more miracles of God.
