The LORD watches over you – the LORD is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The LORD will keep you from all harm— he will watch over your life; the LORD will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.
The Lord sent a cloud to the Israelites by day to protect them from the scorching sun and a pillar of fire by night to keep them warm and give light. The Israelites were His children under promise to Abraham.
Don’t you think the Lord will do the same for us His children under promise through Christ? We have a loving Father.
Revelation 7:16 Never again will they hunger; never again will they thirst. The sun will not beat upon them, nor any scorching heat.
Genesis 28:15 I am with you and will watch over you wherever you go, and I will bring you back to this land. I will not leave you until I have done what I have promised you.”
Psalm 16:8 I have set the LORD always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken.

Isaiah 25:4 You have been a refuge for the poor, a refuge for the needy in his distress, a shelter from the storm and a shade from the heat. For the breath of the ruthless is like a storm driving against a wall
Our confidence should be in God alone. In times of distress or danger or desperation, we must lift up our eyes above the hills of pain, conflict, urgent fear and danger and we must look to God who makes all earthly things to us what they are – smaller than Him. We must see all our help in God in his own way and time. When difficulties and dangers are greatest, it is His almighty wisdom and power that works the safety of those that are under God’s protection.
Think about it – Our Protector never sleeps nor slumbers, He is never weary. Under His shade and protection we may sit with delight and assurance. Ever near us his people, His right hand works on our behalf even as we do our part to fulfil our responsibilities and He gives us success. He will take care that even if we fall He picks us up and we shall not be hurt, by direct confrontation or sabotage. The Lord preempts the evil we fear. He preserves our souls, that we be not defiled by sin, and disturbed by affliction; He gives us eternal life.. He will keep us in life and death and preserve our going out to our work in the morning and coming home to our rest when the evening of old age calls us in to rest. His is a protection for life better than any insurance we can buy. The Holy Spirit, who is our Preserver and Comforter, shall abide with us for ever.
Let us be found faithful in our calling, assured that the blessings promised in this psalm 121 are ours.
