“This is the Best Day Ever”: The Ghana Mission

Each morning, every morning, the girls of the village gather near dawn with their buckets and jars. Together and before the 100 degree + (F) heat descends they walk the six miles to the spring. Carrying the water on their heads, they make the trip back to their village. They repeat the process every evening.

The water they carry is polluted. It brings disease and death, particularly to young children. Their parents know that. Still, they send their daughters. They have no choice. This is the only water they have.

The days in the village are generally without joy. There is little hope. There are no jobs. Educational opportunities are limited. The heat is unbearable.

This is life in a village in Northern Ghana.

A mission team has just returned from this desolate, often forgotten part of the world. This village has been changed… forever. Lives have been changed… both in Ghana and here in Missouri.

While in this village, the team dedicated three boreholes (wells). Fresh, clean, SAFE water is now readily available. The girls will no longer make the exhausting 12-mile trip twice a day. They will have both the time and the energy to attend the school that these missionaries up-graded and expanded.

There can be JOY in this village in a forgotten corner of the world.

Time and again, our missionaries were asked “Why are you doing this? Why have you traveled half way around the world to come here?”

“Jesus sent us.”

“Jesus sent you?! Why?”

“Because He loves you.”

On the day the boreholes were dedicated, a man of the village told one of our missionaries “This is the best day EVER in the history of this village.”

In one small village, in a desolate, forgotten corner of the world, there is JOY. There is HOPE. It was delivered by the Source of the Living Water.

“and unto all the nations…”

AMEN!

Shalom, Art

When Jesus says “Go!” and we go – it will be the best day of our lives.
    Praise the Lord.
