Proverbs 19:10 It isn’t right for a fool to live in luxury or for a slave to rule over princes!
All goodness and blessings come from God and is a form of prosperity. Money by itself does not define prosperity. To prosper in anything means to increase. God wants us to prosper. 3 John 1:2 says .. Beloved, I pray that in all respects you may prosper and be in good health, just as your soul prospers. Prosperity is a form of the zoe(eternal) life or God given life that Jesus has provided for us is full and abundant and overflowing with the goodness of God. The zoe life includes strong and committed relationships, mental stability and soundness, emotional well-being, health, a rewarding job, success, etc. Prosperity should always begin on the inside of each and every one of us. However, this passage in Proverbs is speaking of money and a luxurious living with authority and rulership. Prosperity will destroy a fool, not help them. Proverbs 1:32 says .. For simpletons turn away from me–to death. Fools are destroyed by their own complacency. We all know someone that would be more hurt by money or power or fame, than they could be helped. Someone that does not respect the value of money or the rewards of the hard labor that earned the money. A person who has no wisdom or does not rule his own spirit cannot be trusted with riches or honor and rulership. Solomon wrote these proverbs and was known as a man that had great great wisdom and could easily discern those without wisdom. If the fool was allowed the money, the luxuries and the rulership, then all could be lost or destroyed by the foolishness of the fool. Think of today’s examples. Film stars can steal, take drugs, act sexually explicit, get arrested and still be held up as role models. Much rap music that promotes sexual perversion, drugs, killing, is sought after, bought, and idolized as art. Adultery is called an affair. Sodomy is referred to as a person’s sexual preference or the desire to be gay. Gambling is a much needed and legitimate vacation. Fraternities are hotbeds of drunkeness and whoredom. These are just a few examples of what foolishness breeds. Things have changed a great deal since the days of Solomon. But, a fool is just as much a danger today as a fool was in the days of Solomon.
Matthew 6:33, ‘But seek first the kingdom of God and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you’. A fool does not seek the kingdom of God first nor His righteousness. Only through seeking God first and desiring His righteous ways … Only through growing in the understanding and wisdom of God, through prayer, praise and worshiping Him, do we prosper in the way that Jesus has provided. Only in Him, can we look forward to the zoe life, the good life.
