Dim Sum – Grounded!

GROUNDED Tens of thousands of passengers left stranded as Australia’s national airline cancels all flights over a bitter dispute with unions. That was the headline in our local newspaper.

So many people grounded because of a broken relationship between management and the union.  No more talk. Stop operating! Lost sight of why they exist to serve the travelling people who have commitments at work, home and play.

Have we stopped talking to God? Have we stopped operating for God? Have we lost sight of what is important which should have been the interest of others who are travellers along life’s journey?

It is a shame because what is it that keeps good things from happening to us? Our own sins and iniquities.

Jeremiah 5:25-31: ‘Your iniquities have turned these away,   and your sins have withheld good from you. For wicked men are found among My people,  They watch like fowlers lying in wait; They set a trap  They catch men. Like a cage full of birds,   So their  uses are full of deceitTherefore they have become great and rich. They are fat, they are sleek, They also excel in deeds of wickednessThey do not plead the causeThe cause of the orphan, that they may prosper;  And they do not defend the rights of the poor. Shall I not punish these people?’ declares the LORD‘On a nation such as this Shall I not avenge Myself?’ “An appalling and horrible thing Has happened in the land: The prophets prophesy falsely And the priests rule on their own authority;  And My people love it soBut what will you do at the end of it?

Do the words above describe any of our life’s condition today?

Here’s a situation many of us may have experienced: Have you had a problem with an individual and someone told you  “just forget it, it’s not worth it?” You try forgetting it. It’s hard to do. You try to push it away and avoid it as much as you can. But it’s inside you still,  tormenting you when it wants to come up in the future. It becomes  a “filter” toward other people. You may treat someone badly and not even know why. It’s because of the “junk” you still have in your heart toward a past relationship which comes up when someone is a reminder of that past situation. You don’t even have to recall the past thing, the devil does it for you. God want’s this “junk” out of you so you won’t be tormented in the future! So you won’t allow it to distort your perception toward others. When the junk is removed, the bitterness is gone, the offence is gone and you are freed from the blinkered past!

God may use others to help us see stuff in ourselves as well. It is sin that stops the flow of God’s favour to us, and deprives us of the blessings we used to receive. It is that which makes the heavens as brass and the earth as iron when we pray.

Once we recognize (which is the first step to freedom) what is in us, then we can cooperate with God as He begins purging those things from our lives. Have we sins in our lives which even our pastors and deacons dare not tell us of?

We know the certainty and necessity of God’s judgments when He asks “Shall not my soul be avenged?” Yes, without doubt, vengeance will come, it must come, if the sinner repent not.  The justice and equity of God’s judgments is that  He appeals to the sinner’s own conscience. Do not those deserve to be punished that have been guilty of such abominations? Shall He not be avenged on such a nation, such a wicked provoking nation as this? What will you do in the end thereof?

What will we do? What will we not do that is base and wicked? What will this grow to? We will certainly grow worse and worse if we do not repent, till we have filled up the measure of our iniquity. What a pit of destruction will we come to at last? When things are brought to such a pass as this, nothing can be expected from us but a deluge of sin, so nothing can be expected from God but a deluge of wrath; and what will we do when that shall come?

Let us not wait for the judgment of God’s wrath upon our sins. Let us confess, repent and be reconciled to God and no longer be grounded by the sins that beset us. Let’s have a good clean-up. We need it. We owe it to ourself. We must do it for our good. We must do it for others too and of course for God first.

Prayer: “Father, I have to admit that I may have been deceived in areas of my life. I didn’t see myself clearly and I pray that you help me see within my own heart so that I can become free of those things that don’t belong there. Even David prayed for you to reveal any evil in him, because he too knew he could be self-deceived. Thank you for forgiving me of the sins I recognized, and if there are any others, please let me know. I want to be clean before you Father. I desire to be used of you to help others and I know if I am full of “junk ” then I’ll only give junk. I can only give to others what I have, but if you purify me, and fill me with your love every single minute of every single day, then I’ll have what I need to love you properly, love myself and love others. Guide me and direct me in this Lord, remind me that when I do sin, simply receive forgiveness and not hold on to it, no matter how large or small. I want to know you more and more Lord, to understand your ways so that I can choose wisely for my own life and direction. Let me be free from all fear of making wrong choices, and that whatever choice I make, you will be there to work things out for good. I love you Father, help me to love you more. In Jesus name, Amen. “
