The Holy Spirit is not an option in the life of the believer. Without the Holy Spirit, there is no salvation from sin, from self and from the world. As Paul declares in Romans 8:9, without the Spirit of Christ he is not His. Therefore, it is important for us to make sure we have the Holy Spirit dwelling in us, making sure our salvation.
Many are those who have missed the wonderful presence of the Holy Spirit after their first encounter when they asked Jesus to come into their hearts. Perhaps they have not heard that He wants to walk and talk with them along life’s narrow way.
Is the Holy Spirit in our life, in our family life, our church, our cell group, where two or three are gathered in His name? Have we felt enlightenment on the Word as if the illumination could only come from heaven? AHA moments that quickened our downcast or troubled spirit through a period of spiritual famine? Howbeit when He, the Spirit of truth, is come, He will guide you into all truth: for He shall not speak of himself; but whatsoever He shall hear, that shall He speak: and He will shew you things to come. John 16:13.
Do we need fresh renewal everyday so that from our bellies will flow rivers of living water for sharing and as a witness to the world? “In the last day, that great day of the feast, Jesus stood and cried, saying, If any man thirst, let him come unto me, and drink. He that believeth on me, as the scripture hath said, out of his belly shall flow rivers of living water. (But this spake he of the Spirit, which they that believe on him should receive: for the Holy Ghost was not yet given; because that Jesus was not yet glorified.)” (John 7:37-39). Jesus spoke of the Spirit of God as the life that flows out of us, it must be of Him not us, it is not the human spirit.
Many assume that the Holy Spirit will impose His will on us. However Revelations 3:20 says “Behold I stand at the door and knock, if any man hear my voice and open the door, I will come in to him and sup with him.” He knocks, He does not push His way into our lives. He is a gentle Spirit, who waits for our invitation. He speaks but if we hear and do not ask Him in, He waits and will not sup with us. How often do we sup? Everyday.
So if we have not asked the Spirit to come in to every area of our life, do not be surprised if those areas seem dry as ever, for unless the Holy Spirit is present, we cannot see or hear from the Lord but only from ourselves especially when we read His Word.
Have we prayed and found our prayer bounce back to us? as if the ceiling was of brass? If I regard iniquity in my heart, the Lord will not hear me: Psalm 66:18. It is the Holy Spirit who convicts man of sin. John 16:8 And when he is come, he will reprove the world of sin, and of righteousness, and of judgment. We may have hidden secret sins which only the Holy Spirit’s laser sharp eyes can help us identify.
A church member once testified how her prayers seemed unanswered and while she had examined herself to identify sins in her life, she had to have the Holy Spirit reveal that she had a hidden evil spirit talisman in an ornamental vase she had brought home unwittingly, which had to be removed, before there was freedom and answer to her prayers.
Recently, have we felt the witness and assurance of the Holy Spirit that we are children of God?Romans 8:16,17 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God: and if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ, if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together. Oftentimes we must be reminded of this fact, especially when we face strong opposition or challenges to our faith
Is the Holy Spirit indwelling us daily, or have we re-taken the reins of our heart and life, shoved Him away with other priorities, and wandered far from the Lord because of the distractions of this carnal life? He brings gifts that are spiritual in nature. This is the only way a believer can fulfill his ministry in the power of the Holy Spirit. 1 Cor. 12:7-11. V.11 “But one and the same Spirit works all these things, distributing to each one individually as He wills.” He is given so He can be intimately involved in our life. The Word helps us grow in maturity and to exhibit the life of Christ. The Holy Spirit and the Word work together, to accomplish the task through us who are servants submitted to Him.
If we feel a void in our lives, no power and lack of His oomph! Let us pray “Holy Spirit please forgive me for taking You for granted and for my selfish ways, in pushing you aside. Please come to stay today, please walk and talk with me and lead along life’s narrow way. I truly need you in me and in everything I do. Amen.”
