Adam was created by God without sin and in perfect harmony with God the Creator. Adam was the head if the entire human family and the head of the wife and domestic life. Adam was perfect because everything God creates is created perfect. Perfect in love. Perfect in obedience. Perfect in holiness. Perfect in righteousness. Created in the image of God with a divine nature. No need for redemption.
Then came the “original sin”. Adam violated the direct command of God. Then came the curse of the Fall upon the entire human family. The curse of the Fall was a result of Adam’s violation to something God “told” him not to do. Adam’s transgression brought death into human life. Death was both spiritual and physical death. Spiritual death was man’s eternal separation from the Eternal peace and presence of the Creator that Adam experienced, before the Fall. Physical death was the grave.
Adam’s Transgression brought sin and death into the human family. Adam’s Transgression also brought the promise of a Savior to restore fallen man with what Adam lost. Death reigned…
Romans 5:14…Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
For generation after generation through the Flood in Noah’s Day; and through the promises given to Abraham, humanity was accountable only to God according to conscience or according to knowledge of God through creation. Man was not given commandments from God or Law from God like Adam was given. Man’s accountability to God came through faith in God. Like Abel had. Like Noah and his family had. Like Abraham had…all the way down to God giving the Law and Commandments to Moses on Mt. Sinai. Approx. 2500 years from the transgression of Adam.
Romans 5:14…Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come.
Those who had not sinned after Adam’s Transgression were people who lived between Adam and the giving of Law. These people were only accountable to God according to the knowledge they had of God. Death reigned because man was fallen. Only few maintained faith in God and accountability to the Creator. Man was accountable to God by his knowledge of God. Abraham’s knowledge became more vivid because God gave him a promise and covenant relationship of circumcision.
Scriptures proclaim “death reigned” even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression which was a direct command of God. There was no Law from God in these 2500 years…only the Law of Nature and the Law of conscience…Death made man a natural violator to his own moral standard of right. Death made the human conscience tainted with sin. None doeth good…no not one. Death reigned and caused man to violate God’s righteousness until Christ came.
In Adam’s transgression Christ was promised in Genesis 3:15 to restore and give hope to humanity.
Romans 5:14…Nevertheless death reigned from Adam to Moses, even over them that had not sinned after the similitude of Adam’s transgression, who is the figure of him that was to come
Adam “before” his transgresssion was a figure of Christ who was promised to come.
In Christ, we have hope. So much we have to be thankful for.
God bless you Pastor Rick and family this Thanksgiving.
