Nuggets – Is He Immanuel to you?

The Lord has made us so that there is an innate desire for us to share our worst ” bad” times, and “best” moments with our dearest loved ones. In times of sorrow, loss, sickness we desire that our loved ones are there to support, pray and love us. In our best moments of our life – marriage, births of children, promotion, career success, we invite our loved ones to celebrate with us.

When Immanuel, God’s Son assumed the form of a baby two thousand plus years ago, He came to be with us in our bad and good times. In fact, He did not promise that we would not have the bad times but He did promise He will be with us through the bad times. God is with us in the messes we create. He comes to us during those times to help us get through them and to resolve them with us so we may be strengthened. In fact, He even comes to us not when we are perfect but when we have messed up our lives, our homes, our families, our work, our relationships and He comes bringing His peace that passes all understanding. He promised to be with us even to the end of the age. He comes with healing in His wings when we are hurting. He comes to reinstate us in His love when evil lurks, when our moral standards are dented, even in our churches.

When He came, He recognized the heavy weight of sin and encouraged us to come to Him, all those who are heavily burdened. The condition is for us to come to Him, to call on Him and He will hear our call.

He said you have not because you have not asked. He reached down, will you reach up and call to Him?

Are we like the Israelites who despite having the evidence of the pillar of cloud by day and the pillar of fire by night while they were in the wilderness, thought the Lord was not there with them? Despite His promise, do we feel He is not here with us today?

Matthew 1:18-25 This is how the birth of Jesus the Messiah came about’ His mother Mary was pledged to be married to Joseph, but before they came together, she was found to be pregnant through the Holy Spirit. Because Joseph her husband was faithful to the law, and yet did not want to expose her to public disgrace, he had in mind to divorce her quietly.

But after he had considered this, an angel of the Lord appeared to him in a dream and said, “Joseph son of David, do not be afraid to take Mary home as your wife, because what is conceived in her is from the Holy Spirit. She will give birth to a son, and you are to give him the name Jesus, because he will save his people from their sins.”

All this took place to fulfill what the Lord had said through the prophet: “The virgin will conceive and give birth to a son, and they will call him Immanuel (which means “God with us”).

When Joseph woke up, he did what the angel of the Lord had commanded him and took Mary home as his” wife. But he did not consummate their marriage until she gave birth to a son. And he gave him the name Jesus.

Immanuel, God with us – do you know He is with you every day if you are a child of God? not only in the bad and good times? He wants you to know that He is with you every day. Is He with you everyday ? You will behave differently if in your perspective you have or do not have Him every day.

Is He Emmanuel to you?

Hebrews 13:5,6. Let your conversation be without covetousness; and be content with such things as ye have: for he hath said, I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee. So that we may boldly say, The Lord is my helper, and I will not fear what man shall do unto me.

He promised that He is always with us Matthew 28:20″teaching them to observe all things whatsoever I commanded you: and lo, I am with you alway, even unto the end of the world.”

Child of God what have we to worry about and who have we to fear when we have Immanuel by our side?

Note
I would like to attribute a few of the points above, to my Pastor Rev Dr John Yuen’s Christmas Day Worship Service message 2011.
