God’s Grace is not just icing on the cake

’tis the season of football playoffs and bowls. It is, in some ways, quite heartening to see athletes give thanks following “big plays.” But let’s be honest here. Aren’t these the easy times to “give thanks.” We’re really good at that… giving thanks during the good times. It’s the icing on the cake.

These aren’t the times when we most need God, however. Icing isn’t what sustains us.

God’s provision and His grace are with us all the time, good or bad.

During the good times, it is the source of joy.

During the not so good times, God’s provision and grace are the source of hope. They give us reason to continue the journey.

We don’t see it much… not like the athlete who bows to prayer after a touchdown. But aren’t provision and grace… hope… at least as worthy of thanks as is the icing on the cake?

Alive, this is so true, Giving thanks for the slightly overdone bottom of one of the cake layers brings so much contentment and peace into the thanksgiver’s heart!

We are told to give thanks in everything – the good times and the not so good.
When we give thanks we acknowledge God’s in the good times and ” bad”. Where God is it is good.
