This piece stands by itself, however if you have not read part one, you can do so here
Start each day with time in the Word, no excuses. The Word is your frontline defense against the evil one and your own flesh. (Our flesh is inherently sinful) It is also a good idea to read a devotional each morning. Why morning, because it sets the tone for the rest of the day. Pray each day as well. After I have given myself to God each day, I like to pray for wisdom and understanding about what I read each day. The power of the Word is tremendous; use its’ power in your life each day.
Remember this also, if you don’t hear from God an answer to your prayer, it does not mean that He did not hear you, or that He did not answer. Instead the answer might be; not now, later would be right for you, or I (God) have something better in mind for you, or this will harm you so I (God) will not give it to you, or you are asking for things that are not within God’s will.
Put on the armor of God each day, in the morning. The armor of God is found in the book of Ephesians. Ephesians 6:10-18 10 Finally, be strong in the Lord and in his mighty power. 11 Put on the full armor of God so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. 12 For our struggle is not against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the powers of this dark world and against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly realms. 13 Therefore put on the full armor of God, so that when the day of evil comes, you may be able to stand your ground, and after you have done everything, to stand. 14 Stand firm then, with the belt of truth buckled around your waist, with the breastplate of righteousness in place, 15 and with your feet fitted with the readiness that comes from the gospel of peace. 16 In addition to all this, take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming arrows of the evil one. 17 Take the helmet of salvation and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God. 18 And pray in the Spirit on all occasions with all kinds of prayers and requests. With this in mind, be alert and always keep on praying for all the saints.
We can’t hope to defeat Satan, he is way to powerful for us, there is a reason he is called the god of this world. But take heart, Jesus has already won the battle for us! The devil rules only because God allows him to for a while. Through Jesus, we can have victory over Satan! Jesus won, we need only call on Him in faith, and He will defend us! Isn’t that great?
Putting on the armor of God, (I paraphrased this from a wonderful author by the name of Warren W. Wiersbe in his book; the Strategy of Satan.)
Pray in faith (in your own words) and thank God for the victory over Satan that we have through God.
By faith I put on the girdle of truth, may I be guided by truth today in all I do or say, or think. By faith I put on the breastplate of righteousness, help me to do that which is righteous, and not what is sinful. Thank you for the imputed righteousness of Christ. By faith I put on the shoes of peace, may I be a peacemaker and not a troublemaker. By faith I put on the shield of faith, to extinguish the flaming darts of the enemy. May I rely on you Lord and your Word to protect me. Thank you that I need not live in fear today. By faith I put on the helmet of salvation. Help me to live in the future tense, Jesus will come again, the victory is already won. Protect my mind from discouragement and despair. By faith I take up the sword of the Spirit, help me to use the power of Your Word today. By faith I have put on the armor Father, may this be a productive and positive day of victory.
Always, always end your prayers, in Jesus name, for we are told to do this! Colossians 3:17 And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.
Take this seriously, the moment you become a believer, you are a target of the evil one. The devil will do anything to get you to fail. The closer you grow to God, especially if you minister to others, you can bank on the fact that Satan will be looking for ways to attack and bring you down. 1 Peter 5:8 Be self-controlled and alert. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.
You however as a believer in Christ are protected, but you have to use that protection! James 4:7 Submit yourselves, then, to God. Resist the devil, and he will flee from you. Again, this is the victory Christ won for you on the cross, stand in it!
Get a mentor to help you. Find someone who you can “do life with”, someone you can trust who is further along than you are in the walk with Christ. You have to be open and honest with this person and willing to accept correction, or it will not benefit you. I can’t stress it enough; get help, do not try to walk with Christ on your own! Even the Apostles did not walk alone, but in fellowship with others. Fellowship is very important in your life with God.
Bathe everything in prayer at all times with thankfulness to God.
