Faith Child – I see potential!

During the last few weeks it has been my family’s privilege to welcome a young woman from a third world Asian country into our home. How we impact her life and she ours will depend on what potential we see in each other.

She is a young child of God – I would like to see her grow in her faith and see her blossom as a strong believer in Christ with daily living applications so that when it is time for her to return to her kinsfolk in fast developing land of her birth, she will be a bright light in a dark world of idolatory and self determination. I would like to grow spiritually too in personal ministry, growing deeper in the Word (as we share the Bible in English with the double header of improving her English competency) and coaching and praying with her as we face life in the home together in the few years the Lord has allowed.
We want to fulfil His good plans for our lives. Oh how much it will please our Father in heaven if we can live together in peace and harmony in the home the Lord has provided for us.

She is very bright eyed, with a sunshine(Sonshine) disposition and very energetic and highly motivated. Not criticism but learning to improve is her attitude. Just lovely, all things possible as she will try to serve, to cook, to clean, to garden, to help relieve pain, to be to us all she sees within her ability. Coming from a totally different culture and lifestyle it is a challenge for her to adapt. Yet with a willing heart and sincerity, we are learning from her as well for in our upbringing in requiring the most efficient, most productive, most beneficial culture, we have to think of compassion, of sensitivity, of flexibility, of love in the little things and the big. There will be a revolution in our lives as we allow the Lord to work in us, to change us from glory to glory, every day and to do of His good pleasure. What a challenge. The giving should not be one way, as we support her financially, invest time in teaching her new ways of doing things and improving to her best and optimum level of performance. We want to serve the Lord with gladness and serve the Lord with all our hearts, minds and spirits even in our home.

She brings the energy and enthusiasm of youth and springtime as my dad and I are in the autumn and winter of our lives. It reminds me that He is with us through the seasons of our lives. Where we lack in energy and robustness she lends a hand, moving things, reaching up, pulling down, climbing high, mopping up, finding lost items, being our eyes and hands when needed. What a blessing she is -not to become so dependent on her for help but to thank God for graciously adding to the blessings in our lives through her. She sees sunshine where there is rain and healing where there is pain. Yes she always says “Pray Ah Kong” (Pray grandfather), in face of weariness, pain, discomfort, unthankfulness and complaints. What a joy – may she be more so by the end of her assignment with us.

The potential of Daniel and the three Jewish boys were well recognized by the foreign King in their adopted land, and they made their full contribution as opportunity was presented in God’s wonderful plan for their lives.

Joseph’s potential was realized in a foreign land through many dangers and trials and temptations. He remained true to his faith and found hope to carryo on. What a reward he obtained.

As sojourners on this earth, may we with the Lord’s help and empowerment reach His potential for us. May we be willing always to bow to His discipline, plans, leading, encouragement, and be brave to enter all the doors He opens for us though we may not see beyond the next step. Each of us has a potential-He prizes that potential and lovingly wants to take us there.

Will we co-operate?

Proverbs 16 1.To humans belong the plans of the heart,
but from the LORD comes the proper answer of the tongue.

2 All a person’s ways seem pure to them,
but motives are weighed by the LORD.

3 Commit to the LORD whatever you do,
and he will establish your plans.

4 The LORD works out everything to its proper end—
even the wicked for a day of disaster.

I wonder have I done my best for Jesus – have you?

We are to be encouragers of one another so that we achieve our full potential in Christ. May you and I impact each other to the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ, that the world may see Christ lives in us and learn to love Him too.

Our God-given potential–what a great gift and one what we should encourage in others and seek the guidance of the Holy Spirit to develop within ourselves!
