Faith Child – Settle all accounts timely

Each Faith Child should learn the benefits of settling all accounts timely.  It is in three directions – with God, with others and with self.

Settle your account with God – The old account for sin was settled long ago by Jesus Christ and today if we accept Him as our Lamb of God, our sinful accounts of the past have also been settled with God. Unconfessed sins can draw us away from God and make us neither hot nor cold. His Word exhorts  and He calls us to settle quickly – 1 John 1:9 9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just and will forgive us our sins and purify us from all unrighteousness. Psalm 103:12 As far as the east is from the west, so far has he removed our transgressions from us.

Settle your account with others – Forgive others and resolve issues – some Christians under pretext of being Christian, hide themselves from facing the truth to take necessary action which should not be procrastinated and cause bigger problems later. Many feel discomfort in facing the human “enemy” as they do not like confrontation. However, just hinting, and not being open and honest may not send the needed message or move a person to the place where resolution can take place. We should close accounts with others  before we can move to the next page in our lateral relationships. Ephesians 4:26 Be ye angry, and sin not: let not the sun go down upon your wrath: Matthew 6:12 And forgive us our debts, as we forgive our debtors.

Settle your account with yourself – Many are those who cannot forgive themselves because they think they must beat themselves up for the wrongs done to atone for their sins. The Bible says in Romans 8:1 There is therefore now no condemnation to them which are in Christ Jesus, who walk not after the flesh, but after the Spirit. Jesus has paid the price for your sins and once you accept Him, your sins are forgiven. Isaiah 1:18 Come now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

The enemy wants to take us on a detour, long ride, out of the way from the Truth and daily whispers in our ears “How can He forgive you? you are too far gone”, DO NOT FALL INTO THE TRAP AND GET HOPELESSLY PARALYZED IN A HOLE.  Listen to the Word .. There is No condemnation  in Jesus. If you are in Jesus, no condemnation for your sins if you have confessed and been forgiven. The heavy load of the past can weigh you down, causing you to stumble.. but the Lord.. His plans are for your good .. He wants to lift you up out of the miry clay and set your feet on the Rock to stay. So get up, stop whining, and self-pit-ye… He says to you “Get up, and walk” Will you?

My mother was the physical and spiritual disciplinarian in our family. She initiated a family altar every day when the family gathered for a short Bible devotional and prayer,  committing each day to the Lord. Sometimes we could pray but sometimes it was hard-going where there was discord as  my dad who even though he was cynic and used to persecute my mom before he became a Christian,  for his children’s sakes,  tolerated and joined us in prayer.  My mother had adopted the practice that we would all pray the Lord’s prayer after our own prayers. It helped us no end to get things in perspective and to forgive each other,  to settle all accounts immediately after, for the Prayer to be effective.  Even today, my dad repeats the Lord’s prayer daily as he ends his morning devotions for it has carried him through all these years to have closed and settled accounts promptly.

The Lord’s Prayer Words

Our Father, which art in heaven,
Hallowed be thy Name.
Thy Kingdom come.
Thy will be done in earth,
As it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
As we forgive them that trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation,
But deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom,

The power, and the glory,

For ever and ever.

Indeed, may we be able to say Forgive us our debts as we forgive our debtors today.

Jesus certainly knew what He was doing when He instructed us to “pray after this manner when you go to your Father in Heaven.” How wonderful that you included in your post self-forgiveness, for “There is No condemnation in Jesus” when we are under the power of His Saving Blood and will live eternally with Him because of the Resurrection, the conquering of death. A very beautiful and balanced post here, dear ptl2010!
