Growing up, as a child of God, my aunt used to tell us that she was more afraid of man who could strangle than the ghosts that haunted her. She is one with eyebrows that touch just above her eyes – a superstitious belief in the East that such an one can see into the third dimension. For she could sense the spirits in the trees she approached and drove past, for indeed there are many in the East who worship trees and the spirits that live in them or being a teacher she could feel the evil spirit behind a school “toilet room door” and resisted them in the Name of Jesus and they would flee – a very popular belief that many schools’ toilets were haunted. She would see a cheeky little boy spirit she said and he visited her as she lay asleep – coming out from beneath her bed, to dance in front of her and disappear through the wall. Other times she could see an old lady combing her black flowing hair in the wind, like her mother did sometime in the balcony after a hair shampoo, up in the balcony. She also knew and had seen how the servants would store the cooking utensils, pots and pans and cups and plates at night before they retired and in the morning they would find the plates, pots and pans in disarray on the floor. She knew it was not the spirits of those killed during the Japanese occupation of Singapore but evil spirits with the purpose of making us so fearful that we lose our wits and doubt rather than have faith in our Living Lord.
We lived with extended family at my grandfather’s house for many of our growing up years. It was a large place replaced today by four blocks of tall condominiums. Story has it that many locals were slain there during the Japanese occupation before my grandfather bought the house. My grandfather believed (before he became a Christian) that the house was a blessing to him for since he bought it, it had brought him prosperity. So we lived in it, haunted with blessings he used to say.
We had such family fun times as an extended family at the old home, even though a few of the grandchildren were scared stiff some evenings and needed to be accompanied upstairs to go to bed, or refused to go downstairs to pick up something forgotten when all the rest were upstairs. The servants and the gardener and his family who lived in the outhouse behind the house had their stories to tell but we lived as a happy family inspite of the ghosts for several of us had Jesus in our hearts and we knew and know now too that greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world.
The Blood of Jesus protected us, cleansed, washed us white as snow. Today, the Blood of Jesus applied to our hearts, protects us from evil just as the Israelites were protected from the angel of death after they had applied the blood of the animals on the door lintels of their homes. When the death angel passed through Egypt before the deliverance via the Red Sea, and when the Egyptian first borns were killed, the Israelite children behind doors splashed with blood on the lintels were saved.
We used to sing the song “When I see the Blood” and it is not sung so much now
Have you been washed by the Blood of Jesus? Do you know His covering from all evil? Are you filled with fear? You need to be covered by the Blood of the Lamb, our Lord Jesus Christ.
Shall we continue to be afraid? No! for greater is He that is in us than he that is in the world! No ghost is stronger than the Spirit of the Lord.. and there is a verse in the Bible every Faith Child should know .. Isaiah 59:19 “So shall they fear the name of the LORD from the west, and his glory from the rising of the sun. When the enemy shall come in like a flood, the Spirit of the LORD shall lift up a standard against him.“
Choose to be free from all fear and bondage in the Name of Jesus. Be cleansed and protected under the Blood of the Lamb and be strengthened to live powerful lives for Jesus, submitted to the Spirit of God with victory over sin today.
Whom the Son sets free, is free indeed! Jesus Christ the same yesterday, today and forever. Amen.
