The things we put into our mouths are sometimes very surprising. We eat them when they should be discarded and beyond the expiry dates. Sometimes we eat unhygienic food – if only we knew – from hawker centres to top notch 5 star restaurants and sometimes we know we did that because we cannot escape the stomach cramps or diarrhoea. Is it the same with our spiritual food? Are we as careful or not careful? What we eat affects how we look and feel. Right? else no one will diet. Should we not care for our spiritual diet just as much?
They say of IT systems – Garbage in, garbage out(GIGO). What about our spiritual system within us? Are we being offered garbage? Worse, are we taking in garbage? Then the outcome will be natural or spiritual?
Let the words of my mouth and the meditations of my heart be acceptable O Lord.
How often we feel depressed because of the garbage, lies from the enemy of our souls. We must not take them in. Let them past our heads, but don’t let them land or settle in our minds.
What do we need to look out for and take in?
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are true, whatsoever things are honest, whatsoever things are just, whatsoever things arepure, whatsoever things are lovely, whatsoever things are of good report; if there be any virtue, and if there be any praise, think on these things. Philippians 4:8
However, consider what we need to chuck out of our minds
Finally, brethren, whatsoever things are false, whatsoever things are dishonest, whatsoever things are unjust, whatsoever things are impure, whatsoever things are unlovely, whatsoever things are of bad report; if there be no virtue, and if there be no praise, do not think on these things.
And what will be the evidence of what we have taken in?
A good man out of the good treasure of his heart brings forth good; and an evil man out of the evil treasure of his heart[a] brings forth evil. For out of the abundance of the heart his mouth speaks. Luke 6:45
Does not the ear test words as the tongue tastes food? (Job 12:11)
keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking lies. (Psalm 34:13)
Watch your witness as others are watching you for what you input and output.
Do we feel proud when we should be humbled by His power?
Do we doubt when we should have faith even that the size of a mustard seed?
We have the choice.
