Today, we try to avoid mentioning this dark stronghold for fear of being ridiculed or politically incorrect. We tolerate the views of others without interfering with freedom of the press or human rights, except where Christians are concerned.
The world’s way of thinking says that Godly views have no right to surface. So ill will [particularly against Jews and Christians] is allowed to spread its roots far and wide through gossip and manipulated information via news media, groups, religions, and individuals.
This stronghold begins in the mind as an offense or resentment. In the case of ill will against Christians and Jews it usually is an offense against scripture [the Word of God or God Himself].
When ill will takes root it brings strongholds of unrest along with it. Demons such as hate, enmity, strife, hostility and many others come to take root. If left unchecked ill will leads to sickness, disease and even death.
It kills families, nations, its hosts, and anyone in its path. It can be passed down through generations as a curse.
5 Biblical tips to overcome ill will:
1. Pray and seek God [his will in the matter] before you act on an opinion or report.
Acts 17:11 BELOVED, DO not put faith in every spirit, but prove (test) the spirits to discover whether they proceed from God; for many false prophets have gone forth into the world.
2 John 1:9-11 Everyone who goes on ahead and does not abide in the teaching of Christ, does not have God. Whoever abides in the teaching has both the Father and the Son. If anyone comes to you and does not bring this teaching, do not receive him into your house or give him any greeting, for whoever greets him takes part in his wicked works.
2. Refrain from [distorting] adding to or exaggerating facts particularly where the Bible is concerned.
2 Peter 3:16 Speaking of this as he does in all of his letters. There are some things in those [epistles of Paul] that are difficult to understand, which the ignorant and unstable twist and misconstrue to their own utter destruction, just as [they distort and misinterpret] the rest of the Scriptures.
Acts 20:30 Even from among your own selves men will come to the front who, by saying perverse (distorted and corrupt) things, will endeavor to draw away the disciples after them [to their own party].
3. Forgive before you participate. Don’t participate in gossip.
1 Corinthians 10:21 You cannot drink the Lord’s cup and the cup of demons. You cannot participate at the table of the Lord and at the table of demons.
Matthew 9:4-5 Jesus knew what they were thinking, and said, “Why this gossipy whispering? Which do you think is simpler: to say, ‘I forgive your sins,’ or, ‘Get up and walk’?
4. Help wherever there is need without judging or condemning.
Ephesians 4:29 Don’t say anything that would hurt another person. Instead, speak only what is good so that you can give help wherever it is needed. That way, what you say will help those who hear you.
1 John 3:17 Now, suppose a person has enough to live on and notices another believer in need. How can God’s love be in that person if he doesn’t bother to help the other believer?
5. Love even those who promote ill will and who are against those who promote the Word of God in the light of Jesus Christ.
Luke 6:35 Rather, love your enemies, help them, and lend to them without expecting to get anything back. Then you will have a great reward. You will be the children of the Most High God. After all, he is kind to unthankful and evil people.
Matthew 5:44 But I tell you this: Love your enemies, and pray for those who persecute you.
Items 3, 4, and 5 are particularly on my heart as I pray for my fellow ultra-right-wing church friends in this 2012 election cycle in the U.S. How MUCH this post is needed to be seeded in the hearts of all! And praying for and loving those expressing ill-will is a daily point of spiritual quest for me personally.
