Casting Seeds

The kingdom of God is like a man who casts seed upon the soil; and he goes to bed at night and gets up by day, and the seed sprouts and grows...” (Mark 4: 26-27)

It is just over 3 years since I first stumbled into a Christian blog site. I had no idea what to expect and certainly had no intention of becoming a blogger. Writing is an extremely difficult thing for me to do. In fact, I really dislike the physical process of writing.  Interesting where God takes us. Often it is to places quite unexpected.

I ventured into the blog site as a result of a search for Christian websites. I had returned to my faith after decades of apostasy some eleven months earlier. I needed to grow, to firm my foundation, to strengthen my discipleship. Blogging has aided me in doing all of these things and so much more.

Online, I have established many contacts, built fellowships, made close friends with people from all corners of the globe.

I have learned so very much in so many different areas through the writings of others, things I could have experienced in no other way.

I have experienced shared joys, supported and most certainly been supported during down times.

And I have written. My ramblings have taken me into subjects and to depths I would never have explored otherwise. These meanderings have covered an extremely wide range of topics, from the joys of being a grandparent to studying the Book of Revelation in extreme depth.

It seems to me that writing on a site such as this is like casting seeds literally into the air. When the seed is cast I have no idea where it might land, if it will take root or what fruit it might yield. In most cases, the seed flies from my sight and I will never know what happens with it. I pray that some of it at least falls on the fertile soil, yielding bountiful fruit. If only one seed does so my efforts are successful.

Shortly after establishing ChristianBlessings, ptl2010 invited me to become a contributor here. It is both a great honor and a humbling experience to be counted among the fabulous, faith guided crew who make up the core of ChristianBlessings.

I want to thank my friends here, those of you I have come to know over the last two years. You encourage and support me in ways you will never know.

I thank my wife, without whose support, encouragement, occasion proof-reading, editing and patience I could not be active here. ( All errors, especially in spelling, that remain in my ramblings are entirely the responsibility of the writer!)

The congregation of my home church and especially my rabbi, Pastor Michael, have been a tremendous source of inspiration, encouragement and support. Thank you!

And a heartfelt thank you to all those who read my ramblings.

I am blessed, indeed.

Shalom, Art

A word of encouragement to my fellow bloggers and would-be bloggers:

As a writer, I possess no special talents. Writing is way down on the list of my favorite things to do. Yet, over the last 3 years, I’ve published over 750 blogs. When I first became serious about blogging, I’d hoped for maybe 2,000 views per year. I’m aware of at least 2.5 million total views on all continents. I know that my ramblings have been translated into at least 8 languages.

Jesus commanded us to “spread the Good News.” He’s directed me to do that by writing. My initial response was “Isn’t there another way for me on that list?” Seems that’s the one He’d chosen for me. So I listened.

The internet is both an interesting and challenging place. For those of us who write, it’s like casting seeds to the wind. We never know where they may land. but if we are Spirit guided, some will sprout and grow and produce great fruit.

  1. Occasionally we hear of Seed we have sown bearing fruit and sometimes we have the privilege of harvesting the fruit, but much of what we do here will only be known in eternity. It is HIS work and we are privileged to be used by Him to reach others.

I can relate to your “stumbling” onto a blog site as I did the same, as a result of a Google search. This was not a Christian blog site, but a discussion site which gave me opportunity to engage in many lengthy, respectful debates, discussing my beliefs with many atheists, agnostics, ‘religious’ people, wiccans, and many others for a couple of years before abusive people invaded the site and I left.

As one who has just joined the Christian Blessings site as a contributor, I agree with your statement that “it is both a great honor and a humbling experience to be counted among the fabulous, faith guided crew who make up the core of ChristianBlessings” and I look forward to sharing here. (after I ‘catch up’ after being away – only 128 emails to go!) Thank you for your encouraging words.

Truly, we serve an amazing God!

Shalom, dear Brother Art! What a joy it is to all of us here that you “stumbled” upon a Christian blog and that you were invited to contribute at CB! A very great unmerited gift to us, your being amongst us! May you don’t “like” to write, but I know God LOVES you to write!

Congratulations Art, for your faithfulness through the years (hardly believable it is just 2 years) – you have won for yourself from the mix, surprise and fun topics you have presented, a very special niche on ChristianBlessings and in the hearts of His family here. I thank God everyday for each Contributor and for you and all who support the writing of your blogs – from your dear wife, yes your charming granddaughters too, your inspirational rabbi and church members and all who have contributed through you to where we are today. May we have many more years of collaboration in His work here as He is glorified.

It is good to know that you have been strengthened in faith and ministry and may the Lord continue to be your life’s priority and passion, with His joy and Presence being your strength, health and peace. Today it seems you are on top of the world with the Lord (Remember the Carpenters’ song On Top of the World?) as you find yourself in the centre of His will.

As we circle the globe in cyberspace with ChristianBlessings, may the seeds that are cast, not return unto Him void, for surely it is our daily prayer that the Lord will do wondrously with what is sent forth from ChristianBlessings – “So shall my word be that goes forth out of my mouth: it shall not return unto me void, but it shall accomplish that which I please, and it shall prosper in the thing for which I sent it”.Isaiah 55:11 – as we daily offer ourselves as living sacrifices to Him and write according to His leading.

Here’s three cheers up to the Lord for His faithfulness to usward – Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hip Hooray! Hip Hooray! Praise the Lord! Hallelujah! May He ever reign in ChristianBlessings and in our lives.

All His best for you Art, in your blogging days and years ahead,
    Evelyn
