I have been asked many times WHY I believe in God and why I believe the Bible is true.

I didn’t believe in God for the first 22 years of my life, but I have known loved and served the living Creator God, my loving heavenly Father, through the Lord Jesus Christ, for the last 54 years. In that time He has been my Companion, Counsellor and Guide; my Strength and Enabler; my Challenger and Encourager; my Teacher and Friend – and so much more.

WHY do I believe in God?
Well, why do I believe in my husband to whom I have been happily married for 52 years? Because I have 52 years of EXPERIENCING his presence, his love and provision for me and our family.
My GOD is JUST AS REAL to me as is my husband, my sons, or any living person.  I EXPERIENCE the REALITY of God in my life.

WHY do I believe the Bible?
For much the same reason – the REALITY of the EXPERIENCE of its truths.  I know that won’t satisfy the sceptics, so here are a few other reasons.

The Bible records many hundreds of prophecies concerning Jesus Christ and many other people, kings, nations, towns, events, buildings.  EVERY prophecy, although WRITTEN MANY HUNDREDS OF YEARS BEFORE the event, came true in EVERY tiny detail.   I repeat: EVERY prophecy, in EVERY detail.  Only the living GOD could give men the prophecies to speak and record years before the events.

Many events recorded in the Bible have been disputed and ridiculed by men over the centuries. A great number of these have been proven to be correct when archaeologists unearthed remains EXACTLY as recorded in the Bible.
There are hundreds of such occurrences but I’ll mention ONE of them.

HEZEKIAH’S TUNNEL, recorded in the Bible about 700BC was doubted and ridiculed by “experts” who said it would have been impossible.
Of course, when it was found in 1838 they had no defence. Then, in 1880 an inscription was found in the tunnel, describing its building just as recorded in the Bible centuries earlier.
Today, tourists walk through that “impossible” tunnel.

The Bible is NOT a book of science, but where it touches on scientific things, it is accurate. Once again we find that things comparatively recently discovered by scientists were recorded hundreds of years earlier in the Bible. These include facts about thunder, lightning, stars, the wind, the tides, ocean currents, snow, fingerprints, blood, animals, birds – and the list goes on.

Moving to the New Testament.  There is much documental proof still in existence today of the birth, life, death and RESURRECTION of Jesus Christ – and this is NOT only from Christian sources.  In fact, much is from letters between Roman authorities who certainly were NOT sympathetic to the Christian cause.  There are over 40,000 pieces of literature to support details of Jesus Christ – and only 9 to support the fact that Julius Caesar lived, and there is even less to support that of Napoleon Bonaparte, yet no one doubts their existence.

To an honest person these things are proof that at least SOME of the Bible is accurate and true, and could only have been written under the inspiration of God Himself.  Does it not follow that if some of the Bible was written as God inspired people to write, He would not allow false writings in the same volumes?

To those of us who KNOW GOD – who know and experience the REALITY of His living presence and who have proven the promises in the Word of God to be true, and have experienced the life of victory in Him, none of this proof is necessary.  We know HIM – but to one who does not WANT to believe, NOTHING will satisfy.

Psalm 40:5
Many O Lord my God
are Your wonderful works which You have done,
and Your thoughts which are toward us.
They cannot be reckoned in order to You.
If I would declare and speak of them,
they are more than can be numbered.

About meetingintheclouds

I am Cloudwatcher, a 76 year old Christian lady, happily married to a wonderful man for over 50 years. We have five wonderful sons, all with at least one University degree and in top positions in their chosen fields. One son is still single but four have found perfect wives and they have given us five lovely grandchildren. I was born in England and while I'm proud of my English heritage, I am doubly proud to be a true-blue, fair-dinkum Aussie. My husband and I are committed Christians whose first priority is to love and serve our risen Saviour, the Lord Jesus Christ. My life story will tell of my journey from abuse to peace. I suffered 22 years of abuse, being constantly told I was totally evil and an ugly freak: no one would ever want me, so I might as well do the world a favour and kill myself.

Amen good friend! You ask me how I know He lives? …He lives within my heart! He walks with me and He talks with me, and He tells me that I am His own! What a wonderful and encouraging message! While I am all for girding up our minds, everything and anything is useless without the personal relationship. God bless.

    • I agree. Those of us who KNOW GOD and experience His continual presence and undertaking, do not need any external ‘proof’ of His Being.

Lately I have been ‘talking’ with people here on WordPress who believe Jesus never really lived on earth; that the Bible was written by King James, long after the events recorded in it and other false ideas. How sad! A little bit of ‘hard evidence’ may at least cause them to think and maybe turn their thoughts to the only One who can give them truth and peace.

  2. Thank you for adding the challenge to the unbeliever. May they come to see the Lord Jesus as their sin-bearer and know the blessedness of forgiveness, cleansing and a new life of abundance and peace.

How wonderful it is to know that the truthfulness of God’s Word can be actually PROVEN beyond reasonable doubts. It is this one of many truths that make men more responsible before God.

    • Yes Rob, an honest person is forced to at least acknowledge the truth of the Word, and that makes him accountable and responsible.

For us who KNOW GOD in a personal sense, such proof is not needed, but we still rejoice in it and praise God for the way He has protected it throughout centuries for an undeniable testimony.

Even the preservation of the Word is a testimony of its great value of truth. It has been preserved for thousands of years. No other religion in the world has such preservation or foundation as a basis. Prophetic fulfillments of Christ are numerous which confirms even more truth. Truth is written and preserved…like a burning bush.

I often find myself believing for reasons beyond evidence and provable facts. I find that there is a longing in my soul for Him that is beyond reason. just a thought, Graeme

    • I agree Graeme. When we experience His abiding presence, we do not need provable facts. Communication with our loving Father is soooooooooo sweet. It certainly is beyond reason that the omnipotent, almighty, creator God should WANT to have fellowship with us, but it is a fact, and the reality of the experience cannot be denied.

To the reader who still does not believe:

You trust more than you believe everyday
Each meal you take, each time you travel
Each time you eat, each time you sit
Yes, you must trust in the Word of God
Even before you believe the whole Word
For you see His love surrounding you
And hear about His love offered through Jesus Christ
Experience His love in the sunshine and rain
In the littlest blesssing, the water you drink
Remember the Israelites, it was from the bitter waters of Marah
    That they experienced God’s care
Do not wait till your Marah to experience His love.
For you may not have a Moses
And the Lord through His Holy Spirit will not always chide with man
To accept His love through Jesus Christ, the Lord
And for you to taste the sweet Water of Life.

“And when they came to Marah, they could not drink of the waters of Marah for they were bitter: therefore the name of it was called Marah. And the people murmured against Moses, saying, What shall we drink? And he cried unto the Lord, and the Lord showed him a tree, which when he had cast into the waters, the waters were made sweet.”—Exodus 15:23-25
