Faith Child – Best Protection

A strong tower in war

Like David, we are constantly surrounded by enemies the chief of whom is the father of lies. We have to be vigilant against the attacks of the enemy. However, no matter how vigilant, there is nothing like the protection we have from our Omniscient, Omnipresent, Omnipotent God. No matter where we are physically, spiritually, emotionally, He is our Keeper. We need not fear and we can talk to Him and often out talk the enemy who would like to gain our attention and our mind and defeat us at that level.

David knew the importance of talking to himself for encouragement and affirmation and we see him in Psalm 27 doing just that. Faith Child must also learn to practice this.

Psalm 27 (NIV)

1 “The Lord is my light and my salvation —   whom shall I fear? The Lord is the stronghold of my life  —   of whom shall I be afraid?”

Have you been out alone in a dark and lonely place? Perhaps you find yourself in a strange land, place, situation. There is no one else around and there is a sudden fear that grips you with the question What if? and your imagination runs wild….Stop! David knew the importance of taking hold of the fact that he is not alone but the Lord is with him and so can you.

The Lord will be his light in this dark situation. What relief! Where there is fear he takes on confidence when he tells himself the Lord is there in the midst of uncertainty and doubt. He will show the way.   Not only does He show the way, He knows the way out: He is my salvation. Do you remember the times the Lord has been faithful in His promise where there is no temptation taken you and He has not suffered you to be tempted above that you have been able to bear, but became your salvation? Read in the Bible how He saved David from the lion and the bear and Israel from Goliath, read about Joshua and the battle of Jericho and of Paul and Silas in prison. God was their salvation then and He is your salvation now.

He is our stronghold too. Why do we need a stronghold? He is our tower, our strong place – our refuge, He is our place, our defence from which we stand our ground, not giving in to the enemy.  We need not fear for His safety is sure. We can run into it and hide and no enemy can enter there. It is my/your place in the Lord and the enemy cannot enter! What need we fear? Indeed what and who do we fear if the Lord be for us who can be against us? Now affirm this verse to yourself.

When the wicked advance against me   to devour[a] me, it is my enemies and my foes     who will stumble and fall.  Though an army besiege me,     my heart will not fear;  though war break out against me,     even then I will be confident.

Jesus said in the last days there will be wars and rumours of war. The newspapers testify daily of this fact… war can come out of the blue, between nations, within nations, between individuals and within individuals. When the enemy comes in like a flood the Spirit of the Lord will raise a standard against him.  Yes the battle is the Lord’s if we are following the Lord. Let us follow the Lord in battle, not alone. He leads against the fray. He is already victorious. I choose to be on the victory side. What about you?

One thing I ask from the Lord,     this only do I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the Lord     all the days of my life,  to gaze on the beauty of the Lord     and to seek him in his temple. For in the day of trouble      he will keep me safe in his dwelling; he will hide me in the shelter of his sacred tent     and set me high upon a rock.

Is the Lord your desire? We are to seek the Giver of good things not the good things.  “Seek ye the Lord while He may be found.” As we abide in Him, He will take care of everything else.. our Saviour and Rock. In Him we are secure.

6 Then my head will be exalted      above the enemies who surround me;  at his sacred tent I will  sacrifice with  shouts of joy;      I will sing and make music to theLord.

Yes if you feel discouraged, or let down by others, or suppressed and taken advantage of … remember He is the lifter of your head.. in His time and way, He will come to lift you up above the fray and He will come with healing in His wings and His joy will be your strength.  Yes when we lift our voice to the Lord, in praise and worship, we acknowledge His might and power not only in our lives but in all the earth. He reigns.. we must never forget that, for every knee shall bow to Him, His Name in heaven, on earth and beneath the earth.  He is the mighty Conqueror! Praise His Name.

Hear my voice when I call, Lord;   be merciful to me and answer me.

Yes, He will hear us when we call, from wherever we call. He is merciful to them who are afar off….. and if you feel you are far from Him, take that first step to draw near to Him. He is waiting for you with arms wide open, for you to come to Him.  He wants to give you rest in the midst of the fray. He wants to give you His peace that passes all understanding. Yes we must stand still and behold Him – He is with us. He is near.

My heart says of you, “Seek his face! ”  Your face, Lord, I will seek. Do not hide your face from me,   do not turn your servant away in anger;   you have been my helper.  Do not reject me or forsake me,     God my Savior.  10 Though my father and mother forsake me,     the Lord will receive me. Teach me your way, Lord;  lead me in a straight path  because of my oppressors.  12 Do not turn me over to the desire of my foes, for false witnesses rise up against me,  spouting malicious accusations. 13 I remain confident of this:     I will see the goodness of theLord      in the land of the living.

As he continues to encourage himself in the Lord, David speaks to  himself – David knows He must seek the Lord and he is  feeling so alone – he pleads for God not to forsake him. Are you fearing that the Lord will forsake you as others have done? God is not a man that He should lie.. He has promised to be with you even to the end of the world! He is a Friend that sticks closer than a brother.  You can be confident of this fact. He will never leave you alone.

So my brother and sister, be stong in the Lord and in the power of His  might.

14 Wait for the Lord;     be strong and take heart     and wait for the Lord.

He is near – in you and with you.

Believe .. all things are possible in Jesus if you abide in Him.

  1. The Lord is indeed my Strength, for which I am so thankful, because in myself, I am weak. What an amazing God that He uses the weak and the foolish, to confound the mighty and wise . . . but only because HE overcomes through us.
The Lord is my Refuge and strong tower. He gives me shelter and protection – and confidence to go ahead in His Name and in His strength, and He gives victory.

    What an amazing God!
