Struggling with Fear

Have you ever struggled with fear? What does that struggle look like to you?

I have in the past struggled with fear in ways I would not wish on anyone ever. I believe all of us if we are honest struggle now and again with fear. Fear can have devastating affects on our physical and emotional makeup, not to mention what it can do to us spiritually.

The bible tells us we should not fear, but live in peace and contentment each day. How are we supposed to do that? Do you think this is even possible???

There are many verses in the bible that speak of fear. Many of them have to do with fear of the Lord 1 Samuel 12:24 But be sure to fear the LORD and serve him faithfully with all your heart; consider what great things he has done for you. Fear of the Lord…it may start as fear, but it will metamorphosize into love and respect for God and a desire to do what pleases Him. This therefore is not the fear we are told we should not be subject to.

Luke 12:5 But I will show you whom you should fear: Fear him who, after the killing of the body, has power to throw you into hell. Yes, I tell you, fear him. In this verse Jesus is obviously referring to God.

Luke 1:74 to rescue us from the hand of our enemies, and to enable us to serve him without fear

Romans 8:15 For you did not receive a spirit that makes you a slave again to fear, but you received the Spirit of sonship. And by him we cry, “”Abba,” Father.”

1 Peter 3:14 But even if you should suffer for what is right, you are blessed. “Do not fear what they fear; do not be frightened.”

1 John 4:18 There is no fear in love. But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.

2 Timothy 1:7 For God has not given us a spirit of fear and timidity, but of power, love, and self-discipline.

As you can see in the above five verses, we are told we need not live in fear. God has already given us all our needs through Him. He will protect us, clothe us, and give us our food. He will supply the words to say when we have none to say, while praying or witnessing for Him, or defending the Gospel.

Luke 12:6-7 Are not five sparrows sold for two pennies? Yet not one of them is forgotten by God. 7 Indeed, the very hairs of your head are all numbered. Don’t be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows. Again, the Lord our God is telling us, hey…don’t be concerned, I’m God and I have it all covered!

Philippians 4:6-7 Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything, by prayer and petition, with thanksgiving, present your requests to God. 7 And the peace of God, which transcends all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus. Do not be anxious…do not fear! God asks us to bring all things to Him; He wants to hear from you, do you believe this? Bring your all before a Holy and Perfect God, and find peace and restoration.

Do you struggle with fear? It is more common than most people are willing to admit. Fear is a key strategy of Satan to weaken you and ruin your faith. Anytime the devil can get your mind off of God and onto your own problems…the devil is winning the battle. Take away the enemy’s power…go to God in prayer about your fear.

Maybe fear is a stronghold for you that needs to be broken. You may benefit from reading these articles:

Does it seem like you pray and the fear just seems like it keeps coming back? I urge you…keep praying. Spend time in the Word each day. If you have someone you can talk with about this, please do so. Try to overcome your fears, start with something small and move on to the bigger things.

Do not give up, and do not give in! This battle with fear can be won through perseverance and hard work, along with and more importantly, prayer and devotion to God. I was at one point so consumed by fear and it’s cousin anxiety that many times I could not even leave the house! Going to the grocery store was a major issue some days. I did actually flee from stores because I could not handle being there. Fear can and will consume you if you allow it! Place your trust in Christ, and hope on Him and no other.

It is said that fear is not trusting in the Lord. What do you think? Share your comments below; we would love to hear from you!

I’m normally not very fearful at all, but I’m struggling with something right now that honesty just petrifies me and I can’t think about it without getting extremely scared. I have been trying to reignite my faith and relationship with Jesus and your right, the only way to do that is to trust God, spend time in His Word..and talk to Him!!
If you get this, I would appreciate any prayer you could send my way. Pray for me to be courageous and strong and to FULLY out my trust in God, cause He’s the only one who can help me recover from this,

My father suffered from epilepsy for the first 35 years of his life. He was very sensitive to smells like hospital disinfectants, sights like blood even from paper cuts of his finger, and certain sounds. Each time an epileptic seizure was triggered by one of his sensitivities he was gripped by paralyzing fear and succumbed in no time. He could not do anything to resist (even when prescribed the most potent drugs)until one day he accepted the peace of God with forgiveness of sins when He heard that Jesus is not only Savior but Healer too. Since he believed in the power of Jesus’ Name, there has not been even one seizure for the last fifty years – he is a living testimony of one delivered from fear in the Name of Jesus. Since then he has been involved in the hospital ministry no more fearful of all that plagued him. Praise the Lord. Since the early days, together with the Name of Jesus , his favorite verse has been 2 Timothy 1:7 God has not given us the sprit of fear, but of power, and of love and of a sound mind.
What a miracle takes place when the focus is not the enemy, symptom or reason for fear, but on the Victor of all fears, Jesus Christ, for He is bigger than any fear! Glory to His Name!!
I pray that anyone who is a victim of fear will learn about the powerful name of Jesus for your deliverance and protection and take Him at His word – that if we ask in faith in Jesus’ Name, the Lord will give it to us. ” Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me, the works that I do shall he do also; and greater works than these shall he do; because I go unto my Father.
And whatsoever ye shall ask in my name, that will I do, that the Father may be glorified in the Son.
If ye shall ask any thing in my name, I will do it. ” John 14:12-15. Amen.

  4. Fear, worry and anxiety were hallmarks of my past life – my life before Christ. The closest I ever came to freedom was on long drives on highways, sometimes driving for hours. I was safe in my car, driving, where no one could ‘get’ me, but fear and worry were always present at other times.

As a Christian, fear has not been a major concern and neither has worry, because my amazing Father God has proven that He is able – and desires – to take care of me and my concerns. On the occasions when I ‘forget’ this fact, He gently reminds me.

FEAR is FAITH in satan. Faith is trusting God.

    Satan is a liar.
We serve a truly amazing God!

Thank you Anna, I like your scripture reference. Another good one is Isaiah 41:10 So do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you and help you; I will uphold you with my righteous right hand.

  6. Anna Popescu says:

You’re right — fear is something we all struggle with. Many years ago, during a really dark time in my life, God gave me Isaiah 26:3 — “You will keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” I cling to these words to this day, and they always serve to calm my fearful and anxious heart. Thank you for writing about such a tough yet pervasive subject.
