The Bible says let every man be a liar and let God be true. At the same time it also says no liar can enter into the Kingdom. Phew! This is a serious stronghold that can kill us. But don’t lose heart. There is an answer.
We know lying is wrong. We usually learn this at an early age. But we move through life continuing to lie for a number of reasons. We want to protect our reputation or integrity while we compromise by lying. We lie when we spread stories and fill in the gaps. We lie when we are confronted by an embarrassing situation, to cover up an offense, to protect a loved one from hurt, to teach a lesson to a youngster, to win a political office or job, and much more.
We lead by example. Our children need us to be honest to them. Our spouses need our honesty and God requires it in order for us to come close to him. Is there such a thing as a white lie? No. If we are a liar, we are a liar — there is no black or white to a lie. It is a demonic stronghold.
How in the world will we ever conquer this one?
Since we know that lying is part of our nature, does this mean we give in to it? That would be unthinkable. This is a stronghold only God can overcome. Can we avoid lying at all costs? Probably not in this world without living a monk-like existence. But if this stronghold is so difficult to overcome, how can we be delivered from it?
Biblical tips to overcome lying:
1. Admit that you have sinned.
1 John 1:10 If we say, “We have never sinned,” we turn God into a liar and his Word is not in us.
2. Receive Christ. If you haven’t already, I hope you realize the danger involved in sin. It will catch up with you one day. If you feel true remorse and are ashamed of your sins, apologize to God.
1John 2:22 Who is a liar? Who else but the person who rejects Jesus as the Messiah? The person who rejects the Father and the Son is an antichrist.
3. Forgive others who have wronged you in some way. Forgiveness frees us from our baggage and allows us access to God. Don’t forget to forgive yourself as well.
Matthew 6:14 “If you forgive the failures of others, your heavenly Father will also forgive you.
4. Receive Christ. Understand the sacrifice Jesus Christ went through to deliver you from your sins, and accept it.
Acts 2:38 “All of you must turn to God and change the way you think and act, and each of you must be baptized in the name of Jesus Christ so that your sins will be forgiven. Then you will receive the Holy Spirit as a gift.
5. Resist the temptation to lie. Fight the Stronghold of lies with honesty.
James 4:7 So place yourselves under God’s authority. Resist the devil, and he will run away from you.
1 John 2:1 If anyone does sin, we have Jesus Christ, who has God’s full approval. He speaks on our behalf when we come into the presence of the Father.
This is a good song. The only thing that would improve it is if she also listed for him to get right with God.
