As Filipino Foreign Workers traverse far from home, there is a promise from God that He will never leave His children alone. This beloved hymn expresses the feelings of someone away from home.

You may be working in a domestic situation in a foreign home, or you could be a professional IT specialist or in one of the service call centres for banks or travel companies in air-conditioned officer, you could be  a construction worker at any of the  construction sites in developing countries , or a member of a foreign crew on a commercial or tour ship.

Most foreign contracts are for two years with a break of one month or two months home leave. So you may be away from home for 20 months, or more especially for those who would rather sacrifice the home leave, preferring to earn extra and send the extra earnings and the cost of passage home for family expenses in the Philippines, or to give  something extra to the family at home  to enjoy or for special medical need.

Never Alone
Ludie D. Pickett, 1897

Verse 1:
I’ve seen the lightning flashing,
I’ve heard the thunder roll.
I’ve felt sin’s breakers dashing,
which almost conquered my soul.

The seamen would see the lightning flashing over the high seas, especially near the equator where lightning strikes are at their highest levels,  and breakers are dashing against the ship’s bow so threatening to the vessel.  Remember, He promised to never to leave you, never to leave you alone.

I’ve heard the voice of my Savior,
bidding me still to fight on.
He promised never to leave me,
never to leave me alone.

Those in difficult foreign home situations or circumstances, may be facing discrimination, bullying and even patronizing advances. Do not give up, as you hear the Saviour say I will never leave you nor forsake you. Fight on till you have overcome the situation by prayer, and standing on the promises of God. Remember prayer changes things, people and circumstances. Man cannot help you but all things are possible with God.

No, never alone, no never alone,
He promised never to leave me,
never to leave me alone.

No, never alone, no never alone.
He promised never to leave me,
never to leave me alone.

What assurance is His promise never to leave you alone.

Verse 2:
The world’s fierce winds are blowing,
temptation sharp and keen.
I have a peace in knowing
my Savior stands between.

Yes, the world’s economic and financial winds are blowing with temptations to make a fast buck by being unscrupulous, cheating, stealing, lowering personal morals, devaluing self by selling your bodies to pimps and drugs and all unacceptable behaviour by the Word of God, as non-Christian friends are doing. Know the peace of God when you obey the Word of God to live separate from the world – He has promised to supply your needs according to His riches in glory.

He stands to shield me from danger
When my friends are all gone.
He promised never to leave me,
 Never to leave me alone.

Yes, sometimes when you stand separate from the rest, you are scorned, persecuted and even punished for the Lord. Remember like Daniel and the three Hebrew children, Shadrach, Meshech, and Abednego who were in foreign lands, the Lord will be there with you and  shield you from danger if you call to Him, even when your friends are gone. He promised never to leave you alone.

Verse 3:
When in affliction’s valley
I tread the road of care,
My Savior helps me carry
the cross so heavy to bear;

Though all around me is darkness,
earthly joys all flown;
My Savior whispers His promise,
never to leave me alone.

Oh yes, as He never promised a bed of roses, some of you may be called to go through the dark valley experiences overseas, when it seems His promise of joy does not even flicker in the darkness. Stay strong in Him, then listen for His gentle loving Voice, that will come to you in the midst of the darkest hour, and if you are listening and not wallowing in self-pity. He whispers reassuredly to you personally, He will never leave you alone.

Verse 4:
He died on Calvary’s mountain,
for me they piercèd His side.
For me He opened that fountain,
the crimson, cleansing tide.

Remember He died on Calvary because He loves you. He even suffered by the piercing of His side so that His blood gushed forth like a fountain for you and me. Would He leave you alone when He gave His life to save you from your sins and to prepare you to live with Him in heaven where there will be no more tears, no more sorrow, no more goodbyes?

For me He waiteth in glory,
seated upon His throne.
He promised never to leave me,
never to leave me alone.

O what wonderful hope for He awaits in Heaven for you.
Meantime He is interceding for you seated on the Father’s right hand, He is not leaving you alone on earth even as He is in heaven for He has sent His Holy to be your Comforter, with you and in you. He is not leaving you alone.
What a day that will be, when you see Him face to face and when all injustices will be judged that have taken place on earth. Yes, He the righteous Judge will be the judge of all. He who sees the hearts of man will not judge unfairly. There will be a day of reckoning for all.

The important thing is will He be your judge on that day if you are not child or will you be receiving your reward as His child?

Dear Filipino Foreign Worker, whereever you are He is speaking to you.

Will you choose to belong to Jesus and be promised that you will never be left alone?

Or will you choose to fight life’s battles alone in the foreign field? Alone to learn the painful lessons that it is no fun or even painfully lonely. Many have taken their own lives.

Jesus asks you to give Him your life that He may give you new life in Him, abundant life and a life of victory over sin, death and the grave. Won’t you choose Jesus the Way, the Truth and the Life?

He beckons, “Come unto Me all who are heavy burdened and I will give you rest.” Yes, rest to know that your out of control life can be in His control. He knows your future and if you trust in Him He will direct your path.

Come as you are, come to Jesus. He heals the broken-hearted. He will set you free from every bondage.

Whosoever will to the Lord may come. He’ll not turn one away.

One Response to Christian Tagalog Blog – Never Alone

  1. A well worded message of hope to all Filipino Foreign Workers. I pray this will be read over and over again, and that Holy Spirit will give understanding and faith as it is read; that many will come to know, love and serve the living God through the Lord Jesus.

    We serve an amazing God!
