I LIFT MY EYES : Psalm 9:9-10

Psalm  9 : 9-10:    The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,   a stronghold in times of trouble. 10 Those who know your name trust in you,     for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

Response :  O Lord we are needy people, in needy times, and You are our all sufficient provision of refuge. Lord,  You who  gives no quarter to the wicked in the day of judgment, is the defence and refuge of Your  saints in the day of trouble. Oppression from man and from Satan come to us; and for all its forms, a refuge is provided in You,  Lord Jehovah. There were cities of refuge under the law, You our just and gracious God  is our refuge city under the gospel. You are our  high tower so impregnable, that the hosts of hell cannot carry it by storm, and from its lofty heights faith looks down with scorn upon her enemies.

We must so importantly know thy name, decide we will  put our  trust in You, for You  Lord, has not forsaken us that seek Thee.

Ignorance is worst when it amounts to ignorance of God, and knowledge is best when it exercises itself upon the name of God. Most excellent knowledge leads to the most excellent grace of faith. O, to learn more of the attributes and character of God.

Quick sighted faith -we can have  knowledge without faith, yet there can be no faith without knowledge Knowledge must carry the torch before faith. 2 Timothy 1:12 . “For I know whom I have believed.” As in Paul’s conversion a light from heaven “Shined round about him”, so before faith.  God shines in with a light upon the understanding.

A blind faith is  bad as dead faith: like  a good eye which is without sight, as that faith is good without knowledge. Devout ignorance  condemned the church of Rome, that kept its followers in ignorance.  Ignorance is the mother of devotion; but where the sun is set in the understanding, it must needs be night in the affections.

So necessary is knowledge to the being of faith, that the Scriptures say . Isaiah 53:11 . “By his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many.” Knowledge is put there for faith. Unbelief, cannot live in the light of divine knowledge, it flies before the sun of God’s great and gracious name.

The mother of unbelief is ignorance of God, his faithfulness, mercy, and power. They that know You, will trust in You, as Paul, Abraham, Sarah, in the faith. “I know whom I have believed, and am persuaded that he is able to keep that which I have committed unto him against that day.”2 Timothy 1:12 . “He is faithful that promised,” and “able also to perform.”Hebrews 10:23,  11:11, Romans 4:21 .

The free promises of the Lord are all certain, his commandments right and good, the recompense of reward inestimably to be valued above thousands of gold and silver.  Therefore,  trust in the Lord, O my soul, and follow hard after him.  His free promises, never  fail,  promising more than possibly we could ask or think. He has done more  than ever He promised, as He is good and bountiful.. There is a crown of glory proposed to us who stick fast unto His word, and suffer nothing to divide us from it. Let us rest upon His promises though He seem to kill us; cleave unto His statutes though the flesh lust, the world allure, the devil tempt, by flatteries or threatenings to the contrary.

Let us know He never forsakes His own. Amen.
