Dim Sum – Jammed!

JAMMED! I feel caught – jammed! For what I do is not the good I want to do; no, the evil I do not want to do–this I keep on doing. Romans 7:19 Are you being led or following others who are going the same way as you because others are doing it?  It is sheer folly and frustration to continue in that mode when like a blind mouse you follow. We are often informed of wrong choices, and told of the inevitable consequences.

There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Proverbs 14:12 This is repeated later, in Prov. 16:25 – “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death. ” How often have we known the right choice but chose the wrong choice? Some things may not be what they seem.

Could it be we are involved in some form of entertainment/indulgence which  may seem to be right; it may appear to be right but, upon further investigation, it turns out to be detrimental or harmful. There are young graduates in Singapore who visit the many popular pubs in town with rowdy friends,  in the hope of networking and  finding  jobs.  All appearance may look acceptable for many others are doing it.  It is OK to take just a sip of wine and just be an observer in the pubs, they think… but how many have found themselves dead drunk, raped and dead emotionally when it has been too late? There is no huge neon sign that says “This is the way of death”.

In our Christian faith too,   have we just accepted what we read or hear or watch on radio/TV/internet? Do we find out, for , that which is good. “Test all things; hold fast what is good,” (2 Thess. 5:21). “Beloved, do not believe every spirit, but test the spirits, whether they are of God … because many false prophets have gone out into the world,” (1 John. 4:1) for  “there is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.” Our sincerity will not stop the reaping of consequences for our wrong choices.  Our opinion that the path is right does not make it right. Our sincerity in that erroneous opinion does not exempt us from the consequences!  “There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death.

There are people — who are walking down a pathway they are not certain of … and when uncertainty or doubt enters their minds, they immediately dismiss those thoughts … saying to themselves: “But I am sincere!” My friend, if you are walking down the wrong path; if you are going in the wrong direction don’t be comforted by your sincerity.  Because, sincerity does not exempt you from the consequences of wrong choice !! You are in a jam. A driver’s wrong choice on the road can lead to death. The son of a very wealthy Chinese national, drove a Ferrari at high speed  into a taxi at a road junction in Singapore, killing himself, the taxi driver and his passenger. Two others were injured. It triggered a public outcry because the insurers have repudiated coverage and intend to sue the young man’s   very large estate for third party claims being paid out first  to provide relief to the victim’s families. The insurers  reiterate that the crash resulted because  the driver was “driving at an extremely excessive speed” and it was not considered an accident under policy terms.    Drugs and alcohol can also lead to death. Those involved in the sin of homosexuality  ought to get the same message. Do you continue  believing in lies of false prophets,  or turn from what you know is  right?

1 Timothy 4:2” Speaking lies in hypocrisy, having their conscience seared with a hot iron.”  It is said this comes about because some will depart from the faith, give heed to deceiving spirits and doctrines of demons, listen to hypocritical liars and forbid to marry or command to abstain from foods which God created to be received with thanksgiving. Perhaps you are outwardly laughing but your heart may be in pain, and the end of that empty laugh may be grief.  If you are a  backslider, in heart ,you will have your fill of your own ways. It could seem all fun to make decisions for yourself and not even consider what the Lord would have for you. You have created a fatal habit for yourself by taking full responsibility for your actions inspite of the fact that  you are not  in full control of your life without God.

The Bible speaks of spiritual death. In Ephesians chapter two — being “dead in trespasses and sins,” and eventually the “second death” of fire and brimstone – in Revelation 21:8 – they are  those who have chosen to live  contrary to the Word of God : “But the cowardly, unbelieving, abominable, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars shall have their part in the lake which burns with fire and brimstone, which is the second death.”

Are you feeling jammed? Or don’t you know you are jammed? Do you feel  you need a break and  want to be unjammed? You need to shove over and allow the Lord to be the Pilot of your life. Do you think you are in total and full control? You are mistaken. You will never know what full control means until you lean upon Him for your every need and care when He who is in control takes over and gives that assurance. Read Psalm 50 – in it you will find that God is not just letting things slip by.  But to the wicked person, God says: “What right have you to recite my laws or take my covenant on your lips? 17 You hate my instruction and cast my words behind you. 18 When you see a thief, you join with him; you throw in your lot with adulterers. 19 You use your mouth for evil and harness your tongue to deceit. 20 You sit and testify against your brother and slander your own mother’s son. 21 When you did these things and I kept silent, you thought I was exactly like you. But I now arraign you and set my accusations before you. 22 “Consider this, you who forget God, or I will tear you to pieces, with no one to rescue you.

I pray that if you are in a jammed situation, that your eyes will be opened to turn to the Lord who is your only help out of your jam. Read tomorrow’s Dim Sum – Unjammed!

One Response to Dim Sum – Jammed!

  1. The devil is a great artist. He is able to paint the most evil ‘attractions’ in bright, attractive colours, making them appear harmless. His camouflage works effectively on so many! We must learn to recognise his tactics, submit to the True and Only God and flee from the devil’s traps.
