Have you said that? I have many times. The suggestion is that we have digested what we may have seen or done, and we are finished. We are moving on to hopefully bigger and better things. Or maybe worse “We have seen it all”. Let’s hope we never harbor that kind of resignation. or satisfaction. or suffer the insatiable appetite for things new.
There is always more in what was, and is still , open to discovery.
The Word says; ‘ Thou hast heard, seen all this and will you not declare it. I have shewed thee new things from this time, even hidden things, and thou dost not know them.”.
Those of us who keep journals or are involved with painting know that when we are “done” there is always way more that we did not see or remember. When we go back to that place or revisit it in our minds eye; it tells us something about ourselves. It tells us of our perspective at that time. It may tell us of our often transient or selfish interests. Often we see what we like to see. Perhaps we have no frame of reference and cannot judge it for what it is. Perhaps it tells us something about our level of maturity or preoccupation.
There is significant pursuit in these times for that “fresh” experience; from among both young and old. For many others of us, we may long to revisit things and places knowing that we may be refreshed by the experience of things past or not well remembered, and we seek that opportunity for restoration.
We may smile at the thought of an 80 year old grandmother at her first attempt at skydiving or a grandpa shedding his cane and taking up skiing.; but these are clearly attempts to prove something to one’s self…. more probably others.
I wonder if it would not be better to drive down that old road again with a fresh desire to bathe in the Glory of all that God has set before us; perhaps that we missed or discounted. We may have to slow down some and stop a little more often. We will certainly find more “fresh ” things than we ever imagined. We will be drawn closer to God as he will personally direct us on that tour.
In His words; “I have showed you new things – from this time even hidden. Things you did not know”. He speaks so eloquently through his creations. Let’s all go back and listen to His voice that calls; ” Come back. Bring new eyes; you have missed something”.
