I originally posted this on Believing God Today last year. I thought it worth bringing back this year.
Happy New Year to all of my fellow authors on ChristianBlessings, may we all have a great new year filled with the Lord’s blessings in our lives. A Happy New Year to all of our readers as well!
We all wish each other a happy new year, and that is great! I think we all have those “I’m going to do better this year” thoughts. A new year means a fresh start, a do over if you will. Or that is how many people view it. People make “New Year’s resolutions” and most of the time these fail! I always hope each new year will be better than the last, but I personally do not make New Years resolutions.
Why not make a New Year’s resolution? Well it’s ok if you do…but on the other hand, every day can be a fresh start! Lamentations 3:22-23 Because of the LORD’s great love we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. 23 They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. As we can see by this passage, God’s mercies are new each day! We can start fresh each day every day. No need to wait for the new year or for any other day.
God offered us a way out of our sins, He said believe in Me and you will be saved. Would it not be foolish of us to not take the Lord up on this offer? salvation is a free gift, you can do nothing to merit it, it cannot be earned, salvation is your new beginning.
We are a new creation in Christ, the old self has been crucified with Christ and has died with Him. In the rebirth, we are reborn a new creation. It is very important to understand this concept, and even more important to believe it. Head knowledge without belief does no good. The idea I’m pointing to here is that when we as believers give ourselves to Jesus, we are by the power of God recreated. We are no longer sinners, we have changed because Christ changed us. In our own power we can do nothing. But through the power of Christ, we have been reborn. We are now saints. We still sin, but we are saints, not sinners.
We are saints as the Apostle Paul tells us in (1 Corinthians 6:1-2). The problem is of course that we still sin. Every day, any hour of the day can be a fresh start. We know we have been created as new creations in Christ, and that will not be taken from us because we sin. What I am talking about is that we can have a new start after that sin, anytime we choose. Confess that sin to God, (Jeremiah 31:34) and He will remember it no more. If you have done that, and then repent (Ezekiel 18:30) you have a fresh start.
It is really up to us, God has provided the means to begin again completely, (salvation) or to fix our latest mistake (sin). All we have to do is take the Lord up on His offer, and all of heaven will rejoice. We have to accept Christ’s offer of salvation and forgiveness, He will not push it on us. Why not do it today? If you don’t know the Lord, get to know Him. If you need forgiveness for anything, ask Him. Don’t wait because tomorrow may be to late.
If you would like to pray to receive Christ as your Savior and receive forgiveness of sins, I am providing a link to do so here. Keep in mind this is only a guide, you can pray in your own words.
Already saved but think you have done something that cannot be forgiven? There is nothing you can do that you cannot be forgiven for with the exception of blasphemy of the Holy Spirit. If you are worried about whether or not you have committed this sin, worrying about it would show in my opinion that you have not. Christians cannot commit this sin. So…anything you have done wrong…confess it to God and He will forgive you. The Apostle Peter denied Jesus three times! The Apostle Paul before being saved killed people and persecuted the Lord’s people! If Jesus recruited these fellows to lead His church and teach the people, not to mention write the bible…then you also can be forgiven. Ask for forgiveness, if you fall again, go to God and ask for forgiveness again. This is not a license to sin as truly believing in Christ means we try not to keep repeating sinful behavior, but we do continue to fall even so. Join a church and become part of the community. Read the bible and pray. Know Jesus… know peace and forgiveness. No Jesus…no peace and no forgiveness.
