Faith Child – Getting on in God!

Enoch walked with God . . . —Genesis 5:24

Walking is a mundane thing. So is our spiritual walk every day.  It is what a person  does during the ordinary times that the mettle of spiritual life and character is tested.  The extraordinary moments of life, or exciting happenings bring the sparkle of life but the drudgery brings out the perseverance of a person. .A person’s worth is revealed in his attitude toward the ordinary things of life when he is not under the spotlight (seeJohn 1:35-37 and John 3:30).How do we get in step with God and to keep pace with Him?—  We find that in learning to walk with God, there is always the difficulty of getting into His stride, but once we have done so, the only characteristic that exhibits itself is the very life of God Himself. When that happens, the individual person feels  a personal oneness with God, and God’s stride and His power alone are exhibited. It will be not I that liveth but Christ that liveth in me.
It is difficult to get into stride with God, because as soon as we start walking with Him we find that His pace has surpassed us before we have even taken three steps. He has different ways of doing things, and we have to be trained and disciplined in His ways. It was said of Jesus— “He will not fail nor be discouraged . . .” (Isaiah 42:4) because He never worked from His own individual standpoint, but always worked from the standpoint of His Father. And we must learn to do the same. We learn spiritual truth from the application of our faith to our environment ie. people relationships, circumstances, events, attitudes  that surround us,  and not so much  through intellectual reasoning. It is God’s Spirit that changes the atmosphere of our way of looking at things, and then things begin to be possible which before were impossible.
Getting into God’s stride is living in His strength and doing what He wants to do. It will take  a life time to get there, but we have to keep at it. We must not give up because the pain is intense right now— get on with it, and before long we will find that we have a new vision and a new purpose and be more like Him.

Thinking back to when I began to walk with God, I found it fairly easy to cast aside most of my old habits because He so thrilled me with His presence and fed me so bountifully with His Word. However, once all the ‘big’ things had been dealt with, the going became a little more difficult as more and more lessons had to be applied – but then easier once the nominated thing had been dealt with.

Walking with God – knowing, loving and serving Him – is the ultimate adventure in life. Thankfully, He continues His work of keeping me in pace with His steps. He challenges, He convicts, He empowers and He enables – and we continue on until the next stumble.

    What an incredibly amazing God!
