When Jesus came into society He exposed secret sin. Without Truth there was no conviction for these sins. Sinful men hated Jesus because He represented the Truth and exposed their sin. Jesus warned His disciples that they likewise would be hated and persecuted if they represented this same Truth and exposed sin. Truth is not of the world but comes from the holiness of God. When the world is exposed…they hate. Just like they hated Christ without a cause.
John 15:19-26…If ye were of the world, the world would love his own: but because ye are not of the world, but I have chosen you out of the world, therefore the world hateth you. Remember the word that I said unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord. If they have persecuted me, they will also persecute you; if they have kept my saying, they will keep yours also. But all these things will they do unto you for my name’s sake, because they know not him that sent me. If I had not come and spoken unto them, they had not had sin: but now they have no cloke for their sin. He that hateth me hateth my Father also. If I had not done among them the works which none other man did, they had not had sin: but now have they both seen and hated both me and my Father. But this cometh to pass, that the word might be fulfilled that is written in their law, They hated me without a cause.
Jesus sent the Holy Spirit down from Heaven to expose sin and show men right like Jesus did. The Spirit of Truth now manifests in a much larger fashion than Jesus in the flesh. The omnipresence of the Holy Spirit makes Christ known, “Now”. Sin is revealed and fallen man can turn to Christ and find forgiveness.
But when the Comforter is come, whom I will send unto you from the Father, even the Spirit of truth, which proceedeth from the Father, he shall testify of me:
Jesus made it clear He was not dealing with flesh and blood. Jesus informed these evil men that they were just exactly like their father the Devil. They rejected truth and believed deception just like the Devil. They would not believe or accept the love of the truth. Nor would they accept or beleieve the fact that Jesus was the Messiah and their only possible means of forgiveness from concealed sin.
John 8:44-47…Ye are of your father the devil, and the lusts of your father ye will do. He was a murderer from the beginning, and abode not in the truth, because there is no truth in him. When he speaketh a lie, he speaketh of his own: for he is a liar, and the father of it. And because I tell you the truth, ye believe me not. Which of you convinceth me of sin? And if I say the truth, why do ye not believe me? He that is of God heareth God’s words: ye therefore hear them not, because ye are not of God.
Today the Gospel of Christ is preached in the Spirit to the unbelieving world. The truth of God is extended to the sinner through the Holy Spirit’s testimony that brings a revelation of Christ. Fallen man sees himself in light of the presence of Christ. The cloke of sin is thus exposed by the Spirit of Truth just like Christ exposed sin when he walked the Earth. When sin is exposed evil in the world will either turn to Christ or reject the Truth. If rejection is the case they will retaliate with hate, persecution, and do anything possible to bring reproach upon the name of Christianity. That’s just how evil is, the Devil is, and how the power of darkness operates.
Christians are urged to be glad and to realize the Spirit of Glory rests upon them. Christians are never to be ashamed for believing and living the Truth. Christians are never to be sad when reproached for the name of Christ. Christians are happy people even if they suffer for Christ’s sake. Glory! The Spirit of Glory rests upon them. Isn’t that beautiful? Persecution and offence are not to be understood as strange. These situations are only a trials. Rejoice in your trials! Proves you’re a child of God. When sin is exposed evil people are capable of doing strange things! Expect the offence! Expect suffering for the cause of Christ! No shame for believing and living the Truth! No apology for believing and living the truth. Glorify God in your opposition! The offence will come because the truth you represent…exposes sin!
1 Peter 4:12-16…Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ’s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified. But let none of you suffer as a murderer, or as a thief, or as an evildoer, or as a busybody in other men’s matters. Yet if any man suffer as a Christian, let him not be ashamed; but let him glorify God on this behalf.
