Rivers in the Desert

Isaiah 43 19

Sometimes we find ourselves lost in the middle of the desert. The sun scorches our skin, the heat is miserable, the land appears dry and barren. We run across a skeleton weathered by the wind and our only company seems to be lizards and snakes. We find ourselves thirsty with no water in sight. Our clothes bear the stench of perspiration, which is our only relief. We are hungry, but there is little to eat. Our bodies grow weary and wracked with pain. We develop sores and blisters from wandering around. Pretty soon we grow delirious and begin to hallucinate. Was that an oasis ahead? Is something there? No, nothing. Just more desert. We are exhausted, but we cannot sleep because we sense the watchful eyes of nearby predators. Pretty soon hopelessness overwhelms our souls.

There is good news! The Lord has not forgotten you. He sees your terrible plight and hears your cries for help. Don’t give up! The Lord is doing a new thing; He is making a way for you! There are rivers even in the deserts! The Lord will lead you to the nearest river. Maybe He hasn’t brought you to it yet, but there is definitely a river ahead. The Bible says so, and God always keeps His promises!

Let Jesus carry you to the river when you are too weak to walk. Cast off your heavy burdens on Him and travel lightly. You will get to the river much faster this way! Let the light shine on the darkened path before you. By faith, plant one foot in front of the other until God leads you to the river. God will make a way when there seems to be no way. He works in ways we cannot see. He will make a way for you! He will be your guide and hold you close to His side. Let His Word fight off the enemies of the night and sustain you until you reach your destination. Thank the Lord even in the desert and let hope fill your soul as you think about what the Lord has in store for you!

Amen! I was in tears reading this as I remember my desert times when it looked like I’d never reach my destination. But God is so faithful! He truly does lead us out of the dry land to living water! Thanks for sharing this:) God bless you!
