If My people which are called by My Name, shall humble themselves and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked way; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land!
This often quoted verse of promise is given to all nations; for God has His people in all the lands of the world. We are often admonished to pray for the salvation of souls on various mission fields, and rightly so, but within those prayers it would behoove the Saints of God to bring before the throne of grace the wickedness that is the high places of government in the country where missionaries are serving the Lord. God’s words admonishes us to give feet to our prayers and thus we should encourage the National Christians to become involved in their local and state governments in an effort to curtail the spread of wickedness. Granted, some situations are so laden with the persecution of God’s people that to do so would bring torture to the point of martyrdom. Wisdom and discretion sought from on high would definitely be in order in these situations. For those of us who have the privilege of residing in countries where religious freedom still prevails, it would be our scriptural responsibility to put feet to our prayers and seek God’s wisdom in standing against the wiles of the Devil in high places.
Scripture gives us many examples of how God used his people to confront wickedness in their government leadership. A prime example was Moses and Aaron standing before Pharoah in the Old Testament and John the Baptist rebuking Herod in the New Testament. Others like King David; Deborah and Joshua not only put on the whole armor of God but also their tactical armor in order to fight the Lord’s enemies. When the righteous are in authority the people rejoice. Donning the uniform of an elected official of government by a blood-bought born-again Christian gives opportunity for righteousness to flourish. Many of our nations have wicked men and women in authority, the people thus perish.
There are specific nations is our world where Bible prophecy is unfolding like never before. Israel, of course is the prime example. Those Israeli’s who have accepted the Lord Jesus as their Messiah need our prayers as they witness to their leaders, that their promised Messiah has indeed come into the world. These folk need to be encouraged to seek political offices in their cities and villages; to stand against those efforts to compromise in any given ‘land’ give-a-way, by reminding those in authority that this is the Lord’s promised land to them – not to be taken away by anyone except the Lord Jehovah, Himself.
In addition as the Harlot church rears is ugly ecclesiastical head in the city of Rome, our Italian brothers and sisters-in-the-Lord need to educate their friends and family about the fate of the Catholic religious cult and its role in the end-time prophecy. The same admonishment to Israel also applies to Italy. I would be amiss to mention Germany where, believe it or not, Nazism is on the rise! Will there be another holocaust in Germany? With the German government now holding hands with Russia – time will tell.
God never intended for government to establish a state religion; but He did command Christianity to become involved in the political scene.
Ephesians 6 gives the believer insight into the expectation that the Lord has desired of His people in confronting the evils of this world. We do not wrestle against principalities and powers, but against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places. As we take with us the whole armor of God; our loins girt about with truth of the Gospel; and having on the breastplate of righteousness – which can only be issued by the Great Commander, Himself, we then take up the shield of faith to quench the fiery darts of the wicked.
When the Lord finished praying the “not My will but ‘thine” prayer in Gethsemane He had given all to His Heavenly Father and went forth to accomplish the will of His Father. In other words, Christ gave ‘feet’ to his prayer. His enemy was, as is ours, the god of this world, Satan. The evil one has found willing subjects in the leadership of the governments of the world. We need, therefore, to follow the Lord’s example in praying and then giving feet to our prayers. We may never have to stand before Pharoah’s or Herod’s, but in our own little corner of the world we need to become Christian crusaders for righteousness.
