Let’s Hear And Brighten The Corner Where We Are

Brighten a Dark Corner

Brighten a Dark Corner

Scripture Reference: Psalm 44:1-8

As we go through hard times, even as our faith feels a little shaky, our past experiences of God’s power and goodness towards us become strong supports for our faith.

We have heard with our ears, O God, our fathers have told us, what work thou didst in their days

In this psalm we get the sense that the mighty acts of God in the past have been part of everyday conversations. It wasn’t only in books that the people of God heard about His power, but they have picked up accounts of those who experienced His strength in a personal way. The ancient people of God kept meticulous records of their history and these stories inevitably could not be separated from God’s hand in them.

It is good to read the word, but when we hear, it is even more powerful. This should encourage us to share our own testimonies freely with others. Jesus invited all who have ears to come and hear. His salvation is freely available to “whosoever heareth…

As we read through the first few verses of the psalm, one could almost sense the pleasure with which the people listened to accounts of God’s action in the lives of His people. It appears they derived great delight as those close to them shared their experiences. “Our fathers have told us…

This is encouragement that, while it is important to share the Gospel far and wide, it is essential that we share with our own families and those closest to us. This is a duty no child of God should neglect.

When Jesus commissioned His disciples, He told them to start where they are. Yes, there certainly are times when the Lord calls us to other places, but this does not mean we should be idle while we await such a calling. There is a song called “Brighten the Corner where you are….” Starting where we find ourselves at any particular time is pleasing to God.

Brighten the Corner Where You Are:

by Ina D. Ogdon

  1. Do not wait until some deed of greatness you may do,
    Do not wait to shed your light afar;
    To the many duties ever near you now be true,
    Brighten the corner where you are.Just above are clouded skies that you may help to clear,

    • Refrain:
      Brighten the corner where you are!
      Brighten the corner where you are!
      Someone far from harbor you may guide across the bar;
      Brighten the corner where you are!
  2. Let not narrow self your way debar;Though into one heart alone may fall your song of cheer,Brighten the corner where you are.

  3. Here for all your talent you may surely find a need,Here reflect the bright and Morning Star;Even from your humble hand the Bread of Life may feed,Brighten the corner where you are.
