Is it Armor or Amour?

Do we put it on or do we give it away?

The bible may well give us reference for any attitude we might have. Paul tells us in Ephesians that we must “Put on the full armor of God”. For many of us it may be like the knights of old who donned helmet, breastplate and girded their loins for battle. The bible does tell us of the battle we must rage against sin and the works of Satan. It also might be synonymous with using the word of God as our weapon.

The word is profuse in the various callings we many have. Ecc 3:8 has it;”There is a time to love, and a time to hate, and a time of war, and a time of peace.” Amos 5:15 calls us to “Hate evil and love God”. John 15: 12 commands; “That we should love one another, as I have you”. Eph 4:2 describes “With all lowliness and meekness, and with long suffering and forbearing one another in love.”

What a range of options. Can we wear every hat? First it depends upon who our adversary is,doesn’t it? Must he be struck down by sword of device? Is love an instrument of war? What must we defend to the death? Who is our neighbor that we should love him (her)?

Those who return from the wars vary greatly in their perceptions of justice, and value of retribution. How often to innocents get in the way. Is it also the “christian attitude” that gets in the way?

If find it hard to balance what has been said above; for it does call for balance. God does not call for us to choose activism or passivism. He does call us to use judgement; HIS.

If we are to choose a model it must be Jesus. He found it hard to define someone as an enemy because of his belief. When struck, He would turn the other cheek. Everyone was His neighbor. He did not give up on people, He prayed for them.
He seldom responded to others with wrath and indignation: Only when someone continually violated (as a group or generation) God’s laws.

We are quick to judge as individuals and nations. We buy “hope and change” like it can be sold or managed by man alone.

We can find justification in what we do, even in scripture, if we look hard enough. We are justified by the whole of the scripture ….. not by just a single passage or phrase.

The ultimate question is, as always; “What would Jesus do?’

About 4hispraise

I am quite simply a child of our Lord God. What good that I have done or may do, I pray will reflect solely on the presence of The Holy Spirit who speaks for me in all things.
