HE LIFTS US UP: A TREE!! ME?? What kind of tree are we?? (Luke 6:43-45)

Almost sounds like a Dr. Seuss comment…. However, I want to re-emphasize that many people walk around who pretend to be the sweetest, kindest person– until they are behind closed doors or possibly think that their behavior is not being observed by others. None of us are to judge. But, we can use wisdom and knowledge to discern truth from non-truth.

The Bible compares people to trees in several places. So we think we could be compared to a tree. Some are tall; some are short; some are thin; some are stout!– Sounds like a nursery rhyme or story again. However, what the Bible actually compares us to is the kind of fruit that the tree produces….

“A good tree can’t produce bad fruit, and a bad tree can’t produce good fruit.
A tree is identified by its fruit. Figs never grow on thornbushes, nor grapes on bramble bushes.
A good person produces good things from the treasury of a good heart, and an evil person produces evil things from the treasury of an evil heart. What you say flows from what is in your heart. (Luk 6:43-45 NLT)

So, again… What kind of tree are we? Do we produce anger, resentment, frustration, irritation or other negative traits? Or do we produce love, kindness, gentleness, compassion, and other sweet fruit or positive traits. If you are not sure what kind of fruit that you produce, think about what you revert to when something happens unexpectedly. Do you yell, scream, lash out??? Or do you pray, say everything will be ok, and comfort those involved? Something to think about!!! What kind of tree are we?? You can use this to discern others behaviors. What kind of tree are others? What kind of fruit does that person in question produce? God does not want us to be abused or abusive!! Are you???

Lord, I pray that hearts around this world will be open to receive You and Your Word that You have given us as a guide to help us overcome this world. Bring revelation to Your people and protect us all from the deception of the enemy in Jesus’ name.. Amen.

  1. Well said. When our ‘trees’ start bearing a harvest of ‘good’ fruit, because we are allowing Christ to control us and radiate from us, the world will sit up and take notice. They will see Him and us and want what we have.

  2. I am fond of the oak it lives 500 years, takes 50 years to mature drops acorns every other year and is noted for strength

Looks like we are thinking with like minds thi morning! I loved this… I call these revelations, AHA moments, that’s when a person’s real self is revealed and once having seen it, can’t be un-seen…

Remember, a good tree produces good fruit. We each need to evaluate what kind of fruit we produce…good or bad, positive or negative… for a good tree does not produce bad fruit! Consider this when evaluating others for we do not know what lies in their heart but it is evidenced by their “fruit”.

Well stated! We are trees of many kinds. Our fruit is either sweet or bitter and reproduces after its own kind. We so need God’s transforming mercy in our lives. Thanks for sharing a thought provoking post. 🙂

Very well said. We do well to recognize that no one nor any circumstance has the power to make us anything, such as anger. It is only revealed through these who we already are. It is why we desperately need the life transforming power of the gospel of Jesus Christ. Blessings!
