Teen Blog: Gleanings from a Young at Heart

This past Sunday morning, I had the privilege to listen and glean some words of wisdom from a precious lady in my church.  For the teens that are reading… I hope that you will read on and gain some wisdom from this dear friend of mine.  This will not be a typical post for me… but in just 30 minutes of her speaking, I took 3 pages of notes.  I just felt the need to share it with you!  No matter how Young or Old we are… I believe God weaves people into our lives to learn from.  I am grateful for Ms. Linda, as she will celebrate 70 years of life this week! I am even more grateful for the Amazing example she has set before many others and myself.

I am excited to share some of the tid bits of wisdom that I gathered from her. Enjoy!!!

~The best way to stay involved is to Serve!

~I’ve learned to live in a state of Thankfulness.

~The ONE constant in our lives is God.  He is always with us.

~Proverbs 1:7-9   Trust in the Lord and He will make you truly wise.

~Wisdom comes from daily walking with God.

~We become what we worship.  We become slaves to what we focus on.

~Each one of us is a Role Model.  Hopefully it’s in a good way.

~Ecclesiastes 1:9-11, That which has been is what will be, That which is done is what will be done, And there is nothing new under the sun.

~Money management is a Big Part of Happiness.

~TV commercials are 5 minutes long.  I can wash my dishes in 5 minutes.  Use your time wisely.

~How many of you have saved $400 on your car insurance? No one has, commercials want you to believe you will.

~If you don’t travel, it’s like only reading the front page of the newspaper.  There is a whole world out there that looks and lives differently than we do.  It’s fascinating!

~God has a plan for each of our lives. Some of us will go our whole lives just searching for it.

~Make it a habit to be Thankful!

~If you want to be happy, Learn to be Thankful.

~We must teach our kids and young people the joy of accomplishing things.  It takes hard work.  Things don’t just happen!

~1 Peter 5:8 Be sober, be vigilant; because your adversary the devil walks about like a roaring lion, seeking whom he may devour.

We can’t let our guard down for one minute! Satan is lurking and waiting to attack!

~Technology has no limits.  It can rob us of time that we should be spending doing things that matter.

~Do you remember the first song you ever heard that had a curse word in it? Now you can’t listen to music without curse words or insinuations.  Writers put garbage to beautiful music, and if we aren’t careful, we will just sing along.

~Our society has replaced Love with Sex!  Our children are not told enough about diseases or the responsibility of raising kids. Condoms are handed out to our kids and that is said to be “Sex Education”.

~You never hear the word PRIDE anymore.  Our generation needs to teach young people how to Work Hard and Have Responsibility.

~Young women should be told that having a child is at least a 20-year commitment.

~Having children is the Biggest decision to make as a married couple.

~Matthew 5:16 Let your light so shine before men, that they may see good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

~Take time to make a list of your Blessings and your challenges.  Use this as a prayer journal.

~Thank God for the breath that you breathe.

~Write out your testimony.

~Be thankful for the people that played a part in you coming to know Christ.

~Are you where you want to be in life?  We’re all working toward something… Better health, better study habits, serving others.

~We can learn to be happy/content in whatever state we are in.  Life is going to change.  Don’t allow Satan to rob you of your time and your joy.

~Think about your Strengths and Weaknesses.

~If you have a talent or a hobby, use those gifts for the glory of the Lord.

~You don’t’ have to know how to draw to be able to paint!

~It’s amazing what you can do once you learn the basics of something.

~You never know what you can do to help someone else.  Just try it.

~God’s actions DO NOT depend on ours.

~Pray for our Government!

~Gods word tells us how the story ends.

~Close your eyes for a moment… Think about how BIG the whole world is… Then think about how much BIGGER our God is… and KNOW that This Big God LOVES you!
