“Facing the Giants” was an amazing, inspirational movie. It was not a “multimillion dollar” film, but it had a purity and a simplicity that spoke to most people’s hearts. I know that it spoke to mine…
“Facing Your Giants” is my message for today.
We all have Giants that we have to face in our everyday lives. They may not be the 10 foot tall ones, but they are still giants. They may not be the visible ones that everyone sees, but they are still giants.
Some examples of giants today include:
Goals that you are reaching for that seem out of your grasp.
Addictions that you can’t seem to kick…drug abuse, food addictions, sexual addictions. etc.
Behaviors that you can’t seem to change…physical abuse, verbal and emotional abuse, etc.
Financial burdens… Not enough money coming in to pay utilities or your mortgage, etc.
Baby giants… Problems with infertility, or adopting a baby, etc.
Health giants…Problems with illnesses or diseases, etc.
Anything that seems impossible or unreachable can be a giant in your life.
Now, I want to switch to several stories that we have heard about in Biblical times:
First is David and Goliath. Here is a boy, David, who faced a giant, Goliath, and was able to kill the giant with a single stone that was thrown to the his head. (1 Samuel 17)
Then we find Joshua and Caleb, who were sent with 12 spies to check out the Promised Land. Ten of the spies came back saying that it was impossible because there were giants in the land.. Only two of the spies came back saying that they could take the land with God’s help. The people sided with the non-believing 10 spies, instead of walking in faith with Joshua and Caleb, so they were left wandering in the wilderness for 40 years, until that generation passed, them Joshua and Caleb led the next generation into victory to conquer the land that God promised them. (Numbers 13 and Joshua 14)
Now here are two different generations, facing different giants in their lives. The key to the success of David as well as Joshua and Caleb was a simple word…. FAITH. They knew that alone, they could not do anything, but with God, all things are possible. They had the FAITH that God would fight their battle for them.
So now, we are also a different generation, facing many different giants in our lives. Many of these giants are impossible for us to conquer on our own… Are we going to be like the warriors before David who came against Goliath unsuccessfully? Are we going to be like the 10 spies who believed what they saw with their eyes, instead of having FAITH in what God told them. Are we going to be left wandering in our own wilderness for 40 years or more? Or, are we going to walk in Faith with God who can do anything. Nothing is impossible with God….
I don’t know about each of you, but I am tired of walking in the wilderness… I know the promises that God has given me and I will walk in Faith and with God, expecting the best, because He has promised me. I am still walking to my “Promised Land” but I walk in “Faith” knowing that nothing is impossible as I walk this path with God…. Just think about it!!! Where are you going??
Prayer: Lord, so many of us are tired of walking in the wilderness. Lead us to the “promised land” as we walk in Faith that Your promises are true and that nothing is impossible with You. Lord, we expect the unexpected. We know that You make all things possible. We hang onto You, Lord, for Your promises for our futures… in Jesus” name… Amen.
