Update 2 – If we could reach out to every victim of Typhoon Haiyuan

“It was like a tsunami.  We escaped through the windows and I held on to a pole for about an hour as rain, seawater and wind swept through the airport. Some of my staff survived by clinging to trees. I prayed hard all throughout until the water subsided” (Tacloban Airport Manager Efren Nagrana , 47 )

Corpses hung from tree branches, or were scattered along pavement,  and among flattened buildings.  Grieving survivors searched for lost loved ones while looters raided stores and petrol stations in search of food, fuel and water.

There are 3 missing 23 year old young ladies from Singapore who we hope will be found,  as they  were lost in the typhoon at Tacloban, which bore the brunt of the typhoon.  Students of Flinders’ University, Australia they were on a project with Save the Children to help improve their hosts’  children’s diet.  They were supposed to return home this Saturday. Pray for them that they are safe.

The Singapore Civil Defence Force has sent a team to Tacloban  to aid rescue efforts of the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian affairs, and the Singapore Government has donated USD50k through the Red Cross. The Red Cross will donate $100k in relief emergency supplies. IT specialists will help reestablish communications to facilitate the relief efforts.

We wish we could help everyone and we know we cannot. The Singapore Prime Minister Mr Lee Hsien Loong, said it ” The Philippines has always demonstrated resilience, in the face of adversity. I am confident that your people will pull together, and rebuild their lives. .. Our thoughts are with the people of the Philippines during this difficult time. ”

We will give.and continue to give in the  days ahead… yet, we pray that the Filipinos will  know that God has given more for each Filipino and is reaching out to people who will call on Him even in this most  difficult time. There is a secret realm He wants you to enter –  experience  Him as your Comforter, Refuge and Strength and Provider.  Try Him when you come to the end of yourself. He never fails.

Latest Update: Praise the Lord,  the 3 Singaporeans have been found and are safe.

For maximum effectiveness of financial donations – please send your donations to the Red Cross or World Vision, for local banks are not open without telecommunications in operation.
